If you open my cleaning supply cabinets you’ll find an enormous mix of products both environmentally friendly and not. I’ve been trying to make the shift to environmentally friendly because I believe that it’s better for my family and obviously better for the environment but, to be honest, I’ve run into a few snags. Some of the cleaners just aren’t as effective as the conventional ones. I’ve been on the hunt for an ecofriendly laundry detergent that is tough enough to deal with toddler stains. I’ve been through about 5 to date. When I was contacted by Ecostore USA, I mentioned this to them. They kindly sent me a bottle of their laundry liquid which I noticed is one of their best selling products. Let me be clear that I will ONLY be reviewing and giving away products that I can endorse in good conscience.
The first thing I noticed about the laundry liquid is the relaxing (it’s eucalyptus oil based) smell. It reminds me of an Asian spa, which is obviously near and dear to my heart. After the laundry is done, there is just a very slight trace of it which is perfect. I love it. As I was measuring for my first load I kept thinking to myself “please please please let this detergent work!” and was relieved that it did. I have run about 10 loads so far ranging from delicates to my kitchen floor rug that gets really stained. I ran similarly stained items with a popular conventional brand. In my experience, Ecostore laundry liquid cleaned just as well as the conventional one, but I prefer Ecostore for the following reasons:
1. Ecostore laundry liquid is in a small bottle (relative to other detergents), but you only need to use 1.5 – 3 tablespoons if you use a front loading washer. If the load was small, delicate or lightly stained, I’d use 1.5 tablespoons and 3 tablespoons if large or stained. I REALLY like that it’s a small bottle actually. It doesn’t take up too much room like some of the larger detergent boxes and bottles. I have a small tupperware container next to it where I keep some measuring spoons.
2. Ecostore safely super concentrates their products so that you are getting more for your money. I believe that this bottle of laundry liquid will last as long as the box of conventional powder detergent I now have and cost about the same.
3. I love the scent, as I already mentioned.
4. And of course, more importantly, their No Nasty Chemicals policy is critical. You can read more about that here. Ecostore USA uses 100% Certified Organic Eucalyptus oil and plant-based ingredients. Did you hear that? ORGANIC.
5. Ecostore USA also has free USA shipping for online orders over $25!!! I detest paying shipping costs.
6. There was note inside the box I received that says “All packaging products used for this shipment are environmentally friendly, the packing peanuts are made out of soy, the news print, packing tape and even the boxes are all made out of recycleable paper, as well as the paper this note is printed on.”
I placed another order. I like to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.
As I was writing this post, I took a break and accidentally knocked over some jewelry cleaner. It’s a bright red liquid. I used my bathroom towel to mop it up. Used the Ecostore laundry liquid and there is not a trace of it left on the towel. The laundry liquid retails for $11 and can be bought here. I also hear that the baby products are good but have not tried them.
So, I have some good news.

Would love to try the laundry wash from reading your review! I tried the Sleepytime Bath and it was really mild- great for new born and up to may be 3 months since it is really soupless (at least it feels that way) and doesn’t foam up at all. I used this product on my 2 years old so I don’t think it was enough to clean her sweat and germs from a whole day’s activity. The lavendar smell was good and relaxing and I will use it for my new born if I can get hold of one here in HK.
