Today we made the pilgrimage up to Solana Beach for some of the best pizza in the world. We love Pizza Port, and it’s been a staple in my diet every since I went to college at UCSD. We got there at about 11:30am and it was perfect timing because not a ton of people were there yet. La Jolla Girl had the run of the place and spent most of the time driving one of the car video games in the back. We don’t go there on weekends anymore because it’s so popular (translation, crowded).
We’ve never had a bad pizza there but I suggest you try the Monterey which has pepperoni, artichoke hearts, onions and mushrooms. Yum. A perfect order would be the Monterey, Caesar Salad and Beer Buddies. And beer, of course. Their fresh, locally brewed beer has become so popular that they now have expanded into Port Brewing Company and have a sister site called Lost Abbey.
I noticed a sign on the wall today. This Saturday at the Port Brewing Company in San Marcos, they are having a Toys for Tots fundraiser from 12pm – 7pm. They are calling it Christmas in July and Santa Claus will actually be there! Food, live music and photos with Santa are free. They are asking that everyone bring an unwrapped toy valued at $15 or more. Or, you can donate $15 and then you get to take a present from under the tree that includes “rarities from our barrel archives” which sounds intriguing. They are also celebrating the release of four new beers.
