Wine Wednesday – Grove Mill Sauvignon Blanc 2007

by La Jolla Mom on July 22, 2009

in Going Green, Organic/Green Wines, Sauvignon Blanc, White Wine Under $15, Wine

I bought this at Costco for $8.99.  I wanted to try it, because as I mentioned in my Kim Crawford post, Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs are pretty reliable.  I tried it and thought, yes this is good, but I like Oyster Bay (which at VONS right now at about the same price) and Kim Crawford better.  At least, I think I do.  Just got an idea to do a blind taste test with these 3.  Will report back, except I’ll need to recruit some volunteers so that no bottle goes abandoned and I don’t wake up with a hangover.

So we happily drank through our stash of Grove Mill Sauvignon Blanc and then I FINALLY noticed after at least 8 bottles (not all at once), that at the top of the label is a logo that says carboNZero (yes, written like that, “NZ” for New Zealand).  So I went online and looked it up.

carboNZero is a certification programme by Landcare Research New Zealand which gives businesses and individuals tools to measure, mitigate and reduce CO2 emissions.  They were the first winery to receive this certification. View the chief winemaker talk about it on YouTube here: Grove Mill carboNZero. This carboNZero angle makes me feel good about buying Grove Mill again.

Winemakers notes:
“Bouquet: An elegant blend of tropical overtones, passionfruit, gooseberries, kiwifruit with hints of herbal notes (French tarragon).
Palate: Full palate weight with balanced structure and a crisp, clean finish. Intense flavours of pineapple, grapefruit, white peach and gooseberry. Strong hints of maritime/17 Valley terroir.”

It would be great with fish tacos.
