Iam a dog lover. I had to write about this once I read about Su-Ruff Camp in Sunset Magazine.
If you like to travel in luxury with Fido or Fluffy, the Loews Coronado Bay Resort should be on your list of destinations. It’s a very nice resort that is a few minutes drive from the main shops and restaurants in Coronado. They pride themselves on being pet friendly and vow to wait on your VIP (Very Important Pet) on hand and paw.
Here are some of the amenities they offer:
- Pet-walking and pet-sitting services
- Gourmet room service menus for cats and dogs, prepared by our award-winning Master Chef
- Creature comforts like specialized bedding, leashes, collars, litter boxes (and litter), pooper scoopers and more
- Tail-wagging amenities such as dog-walking routes, pet placemats, water bowls, treats, doggie poop bags and more
- Purr-fect indulgences like rawhide bones, catnip and scratch poles.
But wait, it gets better! Loews has a special Su-Ruff package. The package includes a one hour surf lesson for your dog, a room service meal for your dog, board shorts and a bandana for your dog to wear during his or her surf lesson!
Su-ruff is run by Coronado Surfing Academy. I contacted them prior to writing this post and they mentioned that they do offer “a la carte” doggy lessons for $40 an hour. So that’s good news for locals and visitors staying in other hotels. They also mentioned that they encourage dog owners to come into the water for the lesson, but that the only requirement is that the dog must enjoy being in water. Some dogs really get into it, apparently. Coronado Surfing Academy also has surf lessons for humans with private lessons at $50 an hour, semi private lessons (2-5 people) at $40 an hour per person and group lessons for 5-10 people (call for rates). A wet suit and soft INT board are provided.
The Loews Coronado Su-Ruff package starts at $339 for a Superior King room.
Loews Coronado is also running a Grrreen Dog special that started on Earth Day and runs until Sept 5, 2009. See their website for details. They also have a Lowes Surf Dog Competition that occurred in June.

If you don’t have a dog already, doesn’t this make you want to go out and get one?
