Going Green: Another Use For Orange Mesh Citrus Bags

in Going Green, Household, Keeping it Clean

I give full credit to Good Housekeeping magazine for this information.  I get GH only because I got an email from Amazon.com (did you know that you can order magazines from them?) offering a subscription for a ridiculously cheap price.  I’m glad I subscribe because I actually read it every month.

La Jolla Dad decided to make some stir fry the other day, completely unsupervised.  When he was done, my beautiful All Clad stainless steel pan was completely black with a burnt crust that barely came off with an overnight soak.  I scrubbed the daylights out of it with baking soda and Barkeepers Friend and wrecked my last scrubber.  Mad.  But the pan’s as good as new.

So Good Housekeeping suggests you save the orange mesh bags that citrus and other produce sometimes come in.  Wad it up really tight and use it to scrub pans and other soiled items that would otherwise destroy your scrubbers and sponges.

It might not work as well as some scrubbers, but at least it’s free and you can feel good about re-using something.  I’ll try it.  I thought I’d share this because our situation has been a pain due to La Jolla Dad and I forgetting two times to pick up new kitchen scrubbers at the store.  We still don’t have one!
