The cupcake in the photo is a skull I’m making for Halloween. I’ve got several other aliens in the works that I’ll post, hopefully they will look better than this one.
It has this frosting on it, however! The eyes are a black M&M (from Michael’s) and an upside down Hershey’s kiss. The nose is a black M&M cut in half and the teeth are white jelly beans. I think the jelly belly size might be better as I used the big kind. But took less than a minute to stick all of this on the cupcake – anyone can do it. It’s not the fanciest thing in the world, but kids love it. If you need to rearrange the candy (i.e. you mess up) then you can smooth or pat down the surrounding frosting with a small brush or your finger dipped in cornstarch. This recipe is adapted from a Cathy Lowe recipe on FoodTV.com. The butter/cream cheese combo is truly special. :)
Ingredients:
- 4 ounces unsalted butter, softened
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Beat together the butter, cream cheese and vanilla with an electric mixer. With the mixer on low speed, add the powdered sugar a cup at a time until smooth and creamy.
This makes enough to frost 18 cupcakes. Double recipe for 9 inch layer cake. Try it on The Best Banana Cupcakes.

Perfect recipe idea for this time of year. Would be great for us at my house for Halloween or when we celebrate All Saints & All Souls Day.
Great idea… how adorable! Thanks for sharing this recipe too.
