I should confess that AllModern.com is modern and contemporary furniture retailer that is very much to my taste. In fact, I already own quite a few of their items. I stumbled across AllModern.com almost 3 years ago when I needed to buy a crib for La Jolla Girl. I bought this Oeuf Crib in walnut (a darker base than this photo) and matching Toddler Conversion Kit sight totally unseen, which is a bit crazy given the price tag. AllModern.com had a competitive price, great customer service and I was just generally comfortable with the site. So I ordered the crib. AllModern.com delivered it quickly, without hassle, and the purchase has been worth every penny. We love the crib and it’s shown ZERO wear, though I should mention it’s was used 5 months a year for La Jolla Girl’s first 2 years. It has been seriously whacked around since moving back to La Jolla 7 months ago. Still pretty good, I think.
Not only is their furniture unique, but I’m also fond of their entertaining pieces and kids items. Most of my favorite pieces on the site are made by Blomus. AllModern.com kindly sent me the Blomus Desa Bread Basket complimentary. It dresses up an ordinary table and has uses far beyond a standard bread basket. In fact, I used it to hold Halloween party favors (see right photo) because it happened to blend in with my decor. I was nervous about this bread basket at first, because I didn’t know how to clean it. It’s not clear in the online description that the cotton is totally detachable from the stainless steel frame and machine washable. I was pleasantly surprised to see this after I received it. It’s very easy to keep clean and retails for $56.79.
Therefore, the only issue I have about shopping on AllModern.com is that sometimes I don’t think there’s enough information in the listings. If I was going to purchase the Desa Bread Basket, knowing that the fabric was machine washable would have made the difference between me purchasing it immediately rather than hesitating and possibly forgetting about it. Though I must add, it’s actually very easy to call their help line during business hours to get the answers you need.
Here’s one item that I think would make a great holiday gift – the Offi Dachshund Dog Pet Lamp! Come on, don’t tell me this isn’t cute? Offi makes bear, cat, duckling and other lamps, but here’s a link to the entire AllModern.com lighting collection (includes tons more Offi). I read that people use these Offi soft lights as nightlights for breastfeeding or for kids that are afraid of the dark. They retail at $59 each and are made of non toxic materials.
Speaking of kids, I also have my eye on the notNeutral melamine snack sets though I think La Jolla Girl might be too old for them now that she uses toddler knives. They are BPA free and dishwasher safe. I just love the colors and think that the main bottom rectangular dish would be useful in containing mess. One dual color set is $23.40.
I own quite a few Chiliwich placemats too. They are the best – just wipe them down after use. Or not, you’re call (sometimes a good shake will do). I use them indoors and outdoors. The material is a contemporary vinyl that comes in various patterns and is easy to store. Chiliwich placemats and runners make great wedding or hostess gifts too. Placemats retail from $7 (sale price) – $20 each.
