H1N1 is certainly the hot topic these days. Almost every day I hear about someone who knows someone that has come down with H1N1. It’s a little bit scary. As the virus spreads, I wonder if it’s changed the minds of any parents that were against the vaccine in the late summer/early fall. Has it changed yours?
I originally posted the JuiceBoxJungle widget in this post because it had useful vaccination information. Since then the widget has changed over to a new video about breastfeeding. La Jolla Mom is an affiliate of JuiceBoxJungle, as you know.
I’m still curious to know your thoughts. Do you vaccinate your kids? Will you give them the H1N1 vaccine? Do you think the threat of the H1N1 virus is overstated? Have you been to a chicken pox party?
Thanks!

I’ve gone ahead and signed my kids up for H1N1 vaccinations at school. I know of a very healthy, strong 7th grader who was quite sick with swine flu. That’s enough to convince me to do all that’s possible to protect my kids.

We don’t vaccinate at all but I especially wouldn’t do the H1N1. It’s just too new on the market and I don’t want myself or my children being a human guinea pig.

I am, as usual, on the fence.
On one hand, I’m a hypochondriac and am alarmist, on the other hand, I prefer to let nature take its course. So…
I do believe my five-year-old actually had the swine flu in mid-October (and so did her ped), and she was down for about five days, but rebounded well.
Our three-year-old had a little something soon after…but also came through all right.
I’d rather not put artificial whatevers into my kids — or my — body, but if I really believed there were a big risk to their health I would.
And so far, nothing I’ve seen or read (that is objective) has indicated to me that H1N1 is deadly to most people.
Still, the Poway school district is offering the vaccine starting next week and if I am considering it…
(I am assuming I DID NOT answer your question?)

We’ve all be immunized and I did it without any concerns at all. I was actually thrilled to be able to get it for my kids.

My husband, myself and my daughter have never had a flu vaccination , don’t ever plan to and have never had the flu. We also will not get the H1N1 vaccination. I whole heartily agree with JosiahsMommy, I will not make my family human guinea pigs for the government! They don’t always know best. I think the country has gone a bit crazy over this and need to chill out. I would also never take my daughter to a chicken pox party, I find the whole idea rather morbid. Why purposely expose you child to that? So they can get it and not worry about it? What next hepatitis party?
We got both the regular flu shots and the H1N1 because we already had people in the church we attend getting both kinds and getting really ill. We’ve had both, and not had any ill effects from either.
Let me clarify my post earlier, the people in our church had both kinds of the virus’, not they had both kinds of the shots.
There is no substitute for a strong immune system. Healthy diet and a good workout will help with that.
The vaccines are good insurance for children. My 7 year old got H1N1 and he was really sick for a couple of weeks.
I say listen to your doctor, mine said get it.
