Olea Essence Natural Skin and Baby Care at Whole Foods

Olive oil has been used for thousands of years to heal, replenish and moisturize skin. It’s a highly effective moisturizer because it  resembles skin’s natural oils. I hadn’t seen too many olive oil based skin care products, until I was contacted by Olea Essence. Olea Essence is carried by Whole Foods, and since I shop there I was game to try it.  Olea Essence sent me an assorted sample pack.

A little bit about Olea Essence:  They use extremely high quality olive oil that’s packed with Vitamin E and other antioxidants. Olea Essence is imported from Israel, where it’s made and the olives are grown. Olea Essence products are 100% natural, completely free of chemicals, preservatives, synthetic additives, artificial colors or perfumes. Their products include foot cream, face cream, baby oil, diaper cream, lip balm, solid hand cream, eye cream, night cream, scrub, and more.

So what did I like? Most of it, to be honest.

Diaper Change Cream:  What stands out miles ahead of the pack, in my house, is the Diaper Change Cream. Wish I could have posted before and after photos to prove it. icon smile Olea Essence Natural Skin and Baby Care at Whole Foods We were a Butt Paste family. I have tried various organic/natural diaper creams with little success. La Jolla Girl has a love of citrus (moms, you know what that means) and post long haul flights, we have been to the Dr. for painful diaper rashes. I always revert back to Butt Paste because it works. I didn’t initially have high hope for the Olea Essence. La Jolla Girl took down an entire grapefruit one morning and, of course, was in dire need of diaper cream at bed time. By the next morning, after one application of Olea Essence, she was almost totally back to normal. That’s unheard of in our house and at about the same rate as Butt Paste. She prefers the soft, warm feel of the Olea Essence. She now asks for her “orange paste”.  The Olea Essence Diaper Change Cream is a slightly orange color and doesn’t leave a weird residue like Butt Paste does.

Olea Essence Diaper Cream has calendula oil, but so do a lot of other diaper creams that didn’t work for us.  It must be the combination of calendula and olive oil that makes this one more effective. I’m not going to lie, this is expensive diaper cream at $30 for a 3.38 oz tub. But a little bit goes a very long way.  It’s taken well over a week (granted we are also potty training) to get through a sample the size of my thumbnail.  If you want an effective, natural diaper rash solution, consider Olea Essence Diaper Change Cream. I wish I would have known about it earlier.

Soap Scrub:  The Soap Scrub is made of 97% olives (including the pits) and is thought to heal the following conditions: age spots, eczema,  acne, rosacea, skin tags, fungus, psoriasis and soiled skin.  It’s a 3 in 1 wash, scrub and toner. I use it on my face and don’t feel dry or irritated afterward like I do with some other scrubs. It’s gentle and suitable for daily use.  This is pretty reasonably priced at about $11 for 1.69 oz (I have this size, it probably will last a month with once a day regular use on my face) or $27 for 16.9oz.  What a great way to consolidate your beauty products – use 1 instead of 3.  The scrub is meant for both face and body.  I’ve used it on my hands a few times too.  This and the lip balm are the products that worked best on me.  I love the lip balm and have it on right now.

Olea Essence products also have so many great uses outside of their named use. For instance, the baby oil is wonderful for shaving and if you use the soap scrub with your jewelry on it will clean your rings.   Also, if you happen to be hitting the slopes this winter, the skin rehabilitation cream should be in your suitcase.  Ultra, ultra moisturizing.

If you’re a Whole Foods shopper, keep an eye out for Olea Essence. In San Diego, it’s currently sold at Whole Foods, La Jolla and at Whole Foods, Hillcrest.  Olea Essence will be holding demonstrations at these stores soon.  I’ll hopefully find out the dates in advance and will post them here.  If you don’t live near a Whole Foods, you can shop online at the Olea Essence Online Store.   They have a membership you can subscribe to that will give you news updates and the occasional discount.

In summary, Olea Essence is a luxurious line of natural skin care that works. You can look at the label and understand pretty much what the ingredients are without referring back to your chemistry class.

Unless it changes the diaper for me I don’t think it’s in my budget. But I do love all things made with olive oil :)
