Wine Wednesday: SanTasti Palate Cleanser for Food, Wine and Everyday Use

I will admit that I was skeptical when Brain Wines brought over a palate cleanser called SanTasti to try.  I’d never tried a palate cleanser before, other than plain old water or bread.

We opened a bottle of white wine and a bottle of red wine.  Each of us also poured a glass of water and a glass of SanTasti.  It was the best comparision we could drum up at the time. We drank red, SanTasti and then white.  Then red, water and white.  White, SanTasti, and red.  White, water, and red….you get the point.  I would have thought that my head would have been spinning by the end.  Not from the wine but rather confusion.  I didn’t expect there to be any difference between the water and SanTasti.

There was.  Even La Jolla Dad noticed it.  My mouth felt cleaner after the SanTasti.  Without it , the second wine tasted a little acidic and bitter at first.

Perhaps we should have referenced the SanTasti website before performing our ersatz experiment.  Here’s a video they posted by SuppleWine demonstrating how to sample SanTasti palate cleanser.  We weren’t that far off, actually.

Rumor has it that SanTasti also makes a mean cocktail. Use it as a mixer with gin or vodka to cut down the burn of the alcohol and have a better tasting drink overall. When it’s mixed with alcohol, SanTasti’s bubbles suspend and supposedly look ultra cool. It also helps cleanse your palate after bitter foods like chocolate or coffee. Drink a little after your morning cup and get rid of that horrible coffee breath.

Guess what?  They are headquartered in Encinitas.  Next time I’m up there, I’m going to pick up some Cucumber flavor.  I hope it reminds me of a luxury spa, but I think it would be a nice drink to have after a cup of coffee or to have on hand as an option for guests. You can buy it online and receive free shipping on 24 packs. Or maybe order 2 samples for $.01 and you pay the shipping.

Brain Wines recently interviewed the CEO of SanTasti here. I’m very happy they will be participating in the Paso Robles Wine Country 2010 Grand Tasting Tour. I’ll be attending the San Diego Trade and Media Tasting when the tour stops here on February 24.

That actually sounds refreshing. I’ll have to look for it at Bevmo.
