Eco-Friendly Fresh Wave Additive Helps Front Loading Washers and Solves Pet Odors (Giveaway)

fresh wave

You all have heard my grumblings about the mold in my front loading LG washer. The people at Fresh Wave heard too. They sent me a bottle of Odor Neutralizing Fresh Wave Multi Purpose Additive to see if it might help. I know that others are having similar problems based on the response that post still receives.

I was expecting Fresh Wave to just be a laundry additive, but it actually is multi-purpose. You can use it in a carpet cleaner, humidifier, for kid and pet accidents and basically anything else you can think of that might need an odor neutralizer.  Some people report great success with masking kitty litter box odors.

How it works:  Utilizing extracts of lime, pine needle, aniseed, clove and cedar wood, the Fresh Wave Laundry Additive is biodegradable and non-toxic. The malodor molecules are absorbed and then broken down by the plant extracts – so the odor is completely eliminated (rather than masked with a chemical or fragrance). It smells nice.

Does it work:  I put a cap full in several loads of laundry. If you read my front loading washer post, you know that my washer is almost beyond repair. After using Fresh Wave in several loads of laundry, my washer smells much better. La Jolla Dad just caught me sticking my head in it and sniffing….again…just to make sure. My clothes smell great too. Fresh Wave doesn’t, nor is supposed to, rid the washer of mildew. It just helps with the smell. Even after using Affresh High Efficiency Washer Cleaner
or bleach, sometimes my washer still smells funky even though I’ve attempted to remove every single bit of mold.

I would say that if you use Fresh Wave, don’t forget to wipe down the washer or ease up on mold patrol. You might forget, because there’s less smell there to remind you! We’re getting a dog in the summer, and I would definitely think keeping some of this on hand will be useful then. A 32oz bottle of the Fresh Wave Multi Purpose Additive retails for $15.95. Fresh Wave makes other products pictured below. I laughed when I saw the Stinky Dorm Kit. Based on my college dorm experience, there is definitely a market for that!

My 13 yr old fur baby is suddenly having issues with forgetting where he is supposed to do his business (outside!) and not on the carpet or bathroom floor.I am constantly batteling odors and feel like my house stinks. Its to the point I hate for anyone to drop by. So I would use it to wash the throw rugs and towels and bedding esp. the dust ruffle.

  39. I would use this product to shampoo my carpets! I have 2 potty-training toddlers AND a kitty who occasionally forgets that she is potty-trained already. I guess Monkey-See-Monkey-Do applies to pets, too!

This would also be an essential part of my laundry routine, with my front-loading washer…not to mention all the potty-training “accident” clothing and rags used to clean up said “accidents”.

I could also see using it to wash out my diaper pails, trash cans and litter box, and occasionally, my garbage disposal and refrigerator!

REALLY, the list could go on and on and on!

  65. When I bought my washing machine last summer, my mom told me to get a top-loading and not a front-loading machine because of the smell. Now, a year later, I see what she meant :( I would definitely use this product to freshen up the smell!!!!!

  67. I haven’t yet used the multi-purpose liquid, but I love to use the pearls in smelly tennis shoes and the crystals in the closet where crawl space access panel is located, especially with all the CA rain we’ve been getting! Can’t seem to get rid of the musty smell during these months, but crystals and spray definitely help. May try the liquid in my carpet cleaner — great idea!

  68. Ginger Scharnhorst says:

I LOVE FreshWave products! My aunt first introduced me to them and they’re great for neutralizing pet odors in the home :) I would love to try the multi-purpose product.

  72. Shannon says:

I love the Fresh Wave Products especially the crystals! I have them under my kitchen sink where the garbage & compost is kept. It’s so nice to open up the cupboard doors and have a fresh scent rather than the disgusting smell of rotting food.

I’m excited about this new product that Fresh Wave has out. I find that the rubber part of my front-loading washer gives off an awful scent after awhile. It’ll be nice to see that gone. As well we have a seven month old puppy who hasn’t quite learned that the inside of the condo isn’t her toilet. lol So we can say bye bye to stinky puppy smells.

  73. Jennifer H says:

  87. I had no idea that front loading washers got stinky… this is good to know, as my ancient washer is starting to make funny noises.
