Get to Know Sam the Cooking Guy at “Sam LIVE!” (Giveaway)

by La Jolla Mom on January 27, 2011

in Charities, La Jolla/San Diego, Local People

While his millions of fans know him as “just a regular cook,” Sam “the Cooking Guy” Zien is a Today Show regular with 12 Emmys, two television series and two cookbooks to his name.  A special, one-night event, “Sam LIVE!” is a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with Sam the Cooking Guy.  The event is taking place February 18, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre in San Diego, CA.

At “Sam LIVE!”, Sam will inspire, entertain and, of course, cook while sharing the often painful, yet hilarious, story of how he went from a career in biotech to becoming one of television’s beloved cooking personalities.  Using mixed media with video, audio and photos, he’ll speak about his tumultuous ride, what it’s like to become an internet sensation and how it feels to be called Howard Stern’s “hero.”  Think Vegas meets the Food Network (if people cooked on stage in Vegas and the Food Network was actually entertaining).

Tickets:  General Seating tickets are $60 and can be purchased at www.thecookingguy.com. A limited number of Preferred Seating tickets are available for $150 and include a pre-show meet and greet with Sam.  The event will conclude with a post-show book signing.

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the Salvation Army Kroc Center scholarship fund.  Sam continues to support Joan Kroc’s belief that given the opportunity, all children will have the chance to discover their own passion.

About Sam the Cooking Guy:  Sam the Cooking Guy may be just an everyday guy, but he has quickly become a nationally recognized star. A Today Show regular, his appearances on the popular morning program have garnered the attention of The New York Times and one appearance in particular over 700,000 views on YouTube. Honored with 12 Emmys, “Sam the Cooking Guy” airs in select markets around the country while his second show, “Just Cook This” airs on Discovery Health and Fit TV nationally. Sam’s third cookbook, Just Grill This!, will be released in early 2011.

I have to admit that I kind of enjoyed it when Sam told Kathy Lee Gifford to stop interrupting him. I am surprised that he is still allowed on the Today Show–tense few minutes there.

I love that Sam makes something that looks fancy with simple ingredients. I liked Sam’s chocolate log recipe made with chocolate store bought wafers and whipped cream.

I love Sam because he will give you shortcuts like his “Fake Brulee” that uses off-the-shelf pudding for the custard.

I think that there’s nothing funnier than watching Sam eat stuff that has just come out of the oven or the pan and is 1000 degrees. He just can’t resist his own cooking!

I LOVE Sam. I wasn’t there when he did the whole “pipe down” thing, but if I would have, I might have blushed that he noticed me. LOL

I’m already a Twitter follower, and I also already “Like” both your pages. He’s one of my on-line heroes. He’sturned something so simple into a mini-media empire. That’s what I hope to do.

Retweeting now!!!

I love Sam The Cooking Guy’s no-nonsense approach to cooking. His recent segment about cooking with a hot plate while remodeling the kitchen was great. Made me think I could dispense with all those Calphalon pots and pans I spend so much money on!

I like that Sam seems like a normal person; he’s not all “styled-up’ like the Food Network folks tend to be!

Why do I enjoy watching SAM? That’s simple, I used to avoid the kitchen, unless I was using the Microwave or getting something out of the fridge. Now I’m cooking almost every day. I make breakfasts and lunches and even have been recently entertaining with food in the kitchen all because this guy with glasses and a soul patch was able to simplify cooking. I totally enjoy cooking now thanks to Sam. We really want to take my Mom and Dad to see SAM LIVE next month. I recently convinced my Dad to watch a couple episodes with me. He actually liked Sam, I was kind of surprised because my Dad always has something to say about everyone, but he actually complimented SAM. If I can get my 61 year old father to cook ANYthing is possible. I hope Sam gets syndicated nationwide!

I love Watching Sam because he has a great personality. He cracks jokes, makes mistakes, and comes across as a “real” person versus other cooking shows.

I love Sam because he appeals to my whole family since his recipes are easy and fun to watch. My 13 year old son loves to watch his show and add his own twist on Sam’s great ideas. He has really inspired my son to try to cook and to eat new things. Sam is more of an inspiration than he even knows.

I’ve started watching Sam now that I’m home during the day. I like that he’s never pulled out fancy gadgets for recipes. Everything he makes I can replicate with what I have in my kitchen.

I Love love love Sam! I’ve met him before, and his sense of humor is WICKED!

my favorite thing, though, is how often he burns his mouth while cooking on the show. Just like I do at home!
