Happy New Year! A lot is happening on La Jolla Mom in 2011. Here’s a quick preview, in no particular order:
A series on water-wise gardening: I have some holes to plug in my garden and have actually killed some water wise plants that should have survived. I’ll be going to the Cuyamaca Garden to study my options while also seeking professional advice from my two favorite local nurseries. We are looking into replacing our lawn and I’d like to do more container gardening. A monthly gardening calendar will appear in the sidebar.
Organization: Join me as I attempt to organize and stay that way. I’ll be using various products and home made solutions. I’m starting with my home office and kitchen. Then, we’ll see how it progesses.
Diners, Drive Ins and Dives: La Jolla Dad and I have decided to eat at all San Diego (and possibly up the coast) places Guy Fieri has profiled on his show, just for fun. Since he hasn’t profiled anything in La Jolla yet, I intend to change that….with your help.
Cooking and crafting with kids: I am trying to cut back La Jolla Girl’s use of off digital devices and TV. Kids in the Kitchen is my main method, but we’re expanding to crafts as well.
Eco-friendly bathroom remodel: I realize I need to finish this series. There are still some loose ends to tie up and, to be honest, the project has totally fatigued me. It does look nice though. I’ll give you the pros and cons of some of the material we used. Maybe I’ll even type it from my waterproof keyboard.
Expert advice: I’ll be sprinkling in guest posts from people who know their subject far better than I ever could.
More health and fitness related topics: I’m doing my first BluePrintCleanse juice cleanse next week (hold me). And though I don’t typically stick to New Year’s Resolutions well, I do resolve to take better care of myself through diet, exercise, and more regular spa treatments.
Travel: I’m headed back to Hong Kong for an extended vacation, as well as a few other places. Coming to San Diego/La Jolla? I’ll tell you what to do, as I plan on being a tourist at home.
Disaster preparedness: We live in earthquake country, though the advice seems to apply to other disasters. It’s a topic that has been on my mind lately.
Wine: Still on Wednesdays, though probably two posts instead of one on most days. For fun, I’m going to dabble in some offbeat celebrity wines (a la Jerry Garcia).
My intention is to make the site a well rounded place for home managers, with a little bit of local flavor sprinkled in. I hope you enjoy it.

Happy New Year Katie,
Sounds like 2011 is going to be even better than 2010. With you and everyone seeming to be busy it will be good for all of the La Jolla community to contribute to keep this the best town in San Diego.
Sincerely, Kevin Smith
