If you like an oaked Chardonnay, this wine is for you. I bought 2009 Line 39 Chardonnay at the last BevMo 5 cent sale for about $8 a bottle.  The La Jolla store only had 6 bottles left so I took them all just based on the online description. I’m so glad I did. But, not everyone likes a creamy Chardonnay like I do. Winemakers Notes:

A Virgin Chardonnay?

January 12, 2011

When I opened the box, I thought Layer Cake Virgin Chardonnay 2009 was a wine that didn’t have any alcohol in it.  I was confused. But the word “virgin” is because the wine never comes into contact with oak. This wine is 100% pure Chardonnay with 100% stainless steel fermentation.  This is not the buttery Chardonnay you might be looking for.  I admit it, I love buttery Chardonnays.  But Jayson Woodbridge decided to go back [...]

End the Day with Foppiano Chardonnay

Sorry for the rhyme, but here’s why it’s appropriate. Today was one of “those” days.  After a ridiculously busy morning, I forgot I had a dentist appointment in Del Mar and had to bring the La Jolla Girl.  Not only that, I had to skip her nap to take her.  Then rushed back to La Jolla for another meeting, to the grocery store and home.  I clocked in at 5:00 totally wiped out having put [...]

This is the Chardonnay that I mentioned last week in my Challis Lane post.  The manager at BevMo said that customers are raving about Donovan Parke Chardonnay, because it’s one of those almost “too good to be true” kinds of wines at the BevMo 5 cent sale.  It retails normally for $11.99 so with the second bottle at 5 cents, that’s $6.02 per bottle.  A pretty good deal. There is limited information available online about this [...]

Wine Wednesday – It’s Chardonnay for Dummies

Ok, I fall into the Dummy category for sure when it comes to certain things. What I definitely know about Chardonnay is that I like it, I’ve had good and bad, and I can taste the difference between it and other white wines.  I also know that the Chardonnay section in any grocery store near me can be overwhelming.  So please excuse me while I learn and type. Chardonnay is the most popular wine in [...]

Wine Wednesday – Kistler McCrea 2004 Chardonnay

We bought this wine when it was released in 2006 and hadn’t opened any until now. When something sits in the cellar for years I kind of forget about it though some of our friends do not. Kistler is a small, family owned winery located in California’s Russian River Valley.  They use traditional French wine making techniques. Their wine is sold directly to mailing list members.  This is one mailing list where you can be [...]
