This is one of our top picks from the current BevMo 5 cent sale.  It’s Gen5 Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and though I feel that Wilfred Wong pads his ratings a little bit, he is right about this wine.  He gave it a 92 rating and said, “Way past the pretty face stage, the sophisticated and finely tuned ’08 Gen 5 Cabernet is one of the best reds I have ever tasted out of Lodi; bountiful [...]

Needless to say, I was surprised when I opened this box. We receive a lot of wine deliveries, but the delivery boxes usually contain wine in bottles, not in pouches. I have enjoyed Clif Family Winery’s The Climber wines before, so my curiosity was definitely peaked.  Look at the packaging. It certainly does provide all terrain wine transport for whatever you’re doing outdoors this summer. Benefits of The Pouch Let me tell you about that [...]

Wine in a box gets a bad rap.  More often than not, it’s for a good reason. Calnaturale is the exception to the rule.  I was skeptical about it, but I shouldn’t have been. SIP Certified was developed by the Central Coast Vineyard Team, which is a network of farmers located in the Central Coast region of California, that have been dedicated to sustainable farming for the past 15 years. The SIP Certified [...]

I was really hoping for a knock out here but wasn’t hopeful due to the $8.99 price tag. I bought it at Henry’s, intrigued by the Fair Trade aspect. I’m struggling to fine detailed information on the exact bottle of wine I bought.  Stellar Organics is the largest producer of organic wines in South Africa. I was shocked that it was a 2009 vintage when I brought it home, but that makes sense due to the lack [...]

Wine Wednesday: Eco Friendly Wines From Clif Family Winery & Farm

Back when I was more athletic, I ate my fair share of Clif Bars and LUNA Bars. The makers of these nutritous foods (Clif Bar & Company) are also behind the Clif Family Winery & Farm. I decided to write an entire post about the winery in general, because I know that quite a few La Jolla Mom readers are interested in sustainable and/or organic wines.  Plus, a lot of you are probably already familiar with the parent [...]
