I‘m headed back to San Diego Wine Company tomorrow to purchase more of this. I haven’t been drinking too many Pinots lately because I’ve been leaning toward the big bold Syrahs, but Paraiso 2008 Pinot Noir blew my socks off and I don’t have a problem paying $17.95 for this. It’s smooth right out of the bottle.  See Mark’s notes in the photo. And to top it off, Paraiso is a SIP Certified winery.  This [...]

I was in a hurry at VONS, La Jolla. This Cloudline Pinot Noir was on sale for a $15 and change in a six pack carrier. I love Oregon Pinot Noirs. I always like to have decent Pinot Noir handy.  People like it.  I feel like after Sideways the movie came out, Pinot Noir became very trendy amongst people that don’t know wine all that well.  Fussy grapes and all that. Winemakers Notes: “On the [...]

Last night, we had another fabulous dinner at Whisknlade in downtown La Jolla. During a prior visit, La Jolla Dad and I were having trouble figuring out a bottle of wine to order that we’d both like. The server was there and suggested this Walnut City Wineworks Pinot Noir.  It was a good choice. I laughed when last night, Brain Wines ordered the same bottle for our table without being prompted by anyone. Everyone liked it. Winemakers [...]

I did not have my wine shopping wits about me, but found myself tired at 8:30am in the wine section at VONS, La Jolla.  I was preparing for a gaggle of friends plus kids to spill over to my house after a bottomless champagne brunch.  With that in mind, I wasn’t quite sure what to buy (or translation, how much to spend) because I thought no one would appreciate anything decent by that point. I [...]

Wine Wednesday: Sherwood Pinot Noir 2007

I haven’t been able to get over to San Diego Wine Company recently.   I went the week before Christmas and am so glad I did.  I forgot how fabulous their deals on wine are.  It’s not a big place, but they have a knack for stocking good stuff.  I bought so much wine that I can’t remember exactly why this one wound up in the cart – probably because tons of people I know love Pinot [...]

Wine Wednesday – Papillon Estate Pinot Noir 2006

Yep, another label purchase.  Saw it at Trader Joe’s. Since I love dogs and this one is so cute, in the cart it went.  I had low expectations even though Willamette Valley Pinots are known to be good. I believe I paid $9.99. About the winery:  ”We are located in the Willamette Valley about one hour south of Portland, Oregon.  Our 90 acre Pinot Noir vineyard is planted in Pommard and Dijon clones on south [...]
