When I’m in the neighborhood, I always stop by San Diego Wine Company.  I almost always like what they recommend.  I asked a staff member for a “cheap” mid week kind of wine, for times we know we won’t finish a bottle.  He recommended this Spanish red wine blend from Bodegas Borsao.  When I saw the price I told him immediately to put a case aside.  It’s $5.99 a bottle.  This Borsao gets an 89 [...]

I don’t remember why this red blend wine wound up in the cart but it was purchased at San Diego Wine Company for $9.95.  I did ask an employee for recommendations but we wound up with so many different bottles it was hard for me to keep track.  I did manage to walk out with several of these wines, however. This red blend is 72% Grenache, 12% Syrah, 12% Mourverde and 4% Zinfandel grapes.  Only [...]

Ihadn’t heard of Goose Ridge before, but knew that Washington has been cranking out some great wines. Goose Ridge is a family owned and operated winery in Washington’s Columbia Valley. This area of Washington is actually sun drenched and receives less than 8″ of rain a year! The Monson family has farmed in this valley for over four decades and their winery has made handcrafted, limited production wines since 1999. The name g3 represents three [...]

I wrote about Clif Winery last week so this week I’d like to focus on the actual wines.  The first wine we tried was The Climber 2006 Red Wine.  We had some people over so I intended to share it over a nice tri tip dinner (I actually marinated it in Jack Daniels and apple cider -  it was awesome).  This struck me as a red meat type of wine based on what I read. Someone [...]

I have to tell you that once I saw this wine at Costco, I was intrigued. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a wine from Israel. I paid $19.99. I also wrote a short post about Israeli wines today. About the winery:   It’s located in the mountains of Upper Galilee which are among the highest mountains in Israel. This is thought to be the best winegrowing area in Israel. Galil Mountain is a joint [...]

Wine Wednesday – Montgras Quatro 2007

We decided to try another Montgras Wine since we like their Carmenere so much. This we also bought at Bevmo and it got the same 93 rating by Wilfred Wong as the Atrocedro I reviewed last week. This is a blend of 4 grapes, hence the “Quatro” and it was $13.99. Winemakers notes: “A blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Malbec, 25% Syrah and 15% Carmenere. Deep ruby, shading to purple. Black currant, cherries, leather and capsicum; hints [...]
