I Disagree With Real Simple Magazine About This Wine

The wonderful thing about wine is that what appeals to one person, may not appeal to another.  And that is ok. For instance, I like buttery Chardonnays.  Beau’s Barrel Room disagrees with me, especially regarding one brand that will temporarily go unnamed.  And yet, Beau and I are still friends. Main Street Winery 2008 Sauvignon Blanc has a good reputation.  It was in Real Simple Magazine recently as one of their 7 Totally Affordable Summer [...]

The first thing I noticed about Charity Case Sauvignon Blanc 2009 was the pretty golden color.  I almost thought it was a Riesling.   Also, the label told me that there is more to this bottle than a good wine. Charity Case donates 100% of net proceeds to charities that support families and children around Napa Valley.  The personnel are volunteers and the grapes are donated. It’s a project spearheaded by Jayson Woodbridge of Layer Cake [...]

Foppiano Vineyards is the oldest winery in Sonoma County, having been established in 1896. They have a very interesting and long history, which in California can be rare for wineries.  Foppiano Vineyards is very well known for it’s signature Petit Syrah, and LJM readers will love this fact: In 1927, during prohibition, “Federal Treasury agents raid Foppiano Vineyards, forcing 100,000 gallons of wine to be dumped in a nearby creek, making the spot the most [...]

When I saw this on sale at BevMo, I had to buy it. I’ve been meaning too try these wines anyway, because if I can save the world while drinking wine, why would I NOT do that? 50% of proceeds are donated to partner charities. One Hope originally began their focus on Breast Cancer, Autism and AIDS but have since branched outward to the environment and helping military families. The Sauvignon Blanc benefits the environment, [...]

Wine Wednesday – 2008 Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc

Thumbnail image for Wine Wednesday – 2008 Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc

This was a total impulse buy.  I have a slightly emotional attachment to Pomelos because we used to buy them all the time in Hong Kong.  Pomelo is a very large citrus fruit (looks like a grapefruit on steroids) that is native to South East Asia.  Because they are very difficult to peel, we’d buy it already peeled.  It was expensive.  It was (probably still is) La Jolla Girl’s favorite fruit.  She could eat buckets of [...]

Wine Wednesday – Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc 2008

I bought this wine at Costco and I believe I paid around $7.99 for it. I had heard of it before because I read it received a 90 rating by Wine Spectator which, to me, is a pretty reliable indicator that it’s good. But it’s even better at that bargain price. We go to the Fishery in Pacific Beach for takeout every once in a while. I would suggest it to anyone that likes ceviche [...]
