This was a label purchase at San Diego Wine Company. I do not recall being sold by a write up or anything else. My love of Barossa Valley Shiraz plus the name Fetish equaled purchase.  This wine is big, bold and basically has a lot going on.  I suspect because it’s aged in 15% shaven French oak, 30% shaven American oak, and the rest in third-fill American wood for 10 months. Wow. Winemaker’s Notes: “The [...]

Paringa Shiraz 2008: My BevMo 5 Cent Sale Pick

I‘m a little bit perplexed because I thought the BevMo 5 cent sale ended on Monday but online, it seems to still be going. I happen to be on a Shiraz kick lately.  This bottle is worth checking out especially if you locate it at your BevMo and it’s still on sale.  It’s regular price is $11.99 so during the 5 cent sale when you get the second bottle for 5 cents, that’s a whopping [...]

Wines of Australia – Great Value at Whole Foods (Giveaway)

I was at Whole Foods Market, La Jolla the other day and noticed a few “new to me” things about their wine section.  To be honest, I forget to look at it sometimes.  By the time I navigate to the other side of the store (I start at the produce side on the left, wine is on the far right), I’m either running low on time or La Jolla Girl is running low on patience. [...]

This is one of the wines I bought at Whole Foods Market, La Jolla the other day.  As I’ve mentioned previously, we love Shiraz from the Barossa region of Australia.  It’s a place I intend to visit someday. St Hallett was established in 1944 and all of their grapes are grown in the Barossa Valley.  The Barossa Valley is a diverse enough region to produce a variety of wines, but it has some of the [...]

Wine Wednesday: Stellar Organics Shiraz 2009 (Fair Trade)

I was really hoping for a knock out here but wasn’t hopeful due to the $8.99 price tag. I bought it at Henry’s, intrigued by the Fair Trade aspect. I’m struggling to fine detailed information on the exact bottle of wine I bought.  Stellar Organics is the largest producer of organic wines in South Africa. I was shocked that it was a 2009 vintage when I brought it home, but that makes sense due to the lack [...]

Wine Wednesday – 2007 Herman Story 239 Days Syrah

Herman Story wines are some of my favorites at the moment. The wines are excellent and the emails from the wine maker, Russell From, make me laugh out loud. We recently received our fall shipment of wines and this was in the box. Russell only made 50 cases of the 239 days. He sent the bottles to his wine club members and here are his special notes: “Making the 239 was super risky. In fact, [...]
