I‘ve been intrigued by Israeli wines for a while as I have picked up a few at Costco that have been pretty good. I was sent a bottle of Gilgal Chardonnay and a bottle of Gilgal Cabernet Sauvignon to try, so obviously, I did. Gilgal wines are produced and bottled by the Golan Heights Winery, Israel’s most prestigious winery. When I opened the box, I thought Layer Cake Virgin Chardonnay 2009 was a wine that didn’t have any alcohol in it. I was confused. But the word “virgin” is because the wine never comes into contact with oak. This wine is 100% pure Chardonnay with 100% stainless steel fermentation.
