I was beyond happy when I opened the box containing this special wine.  I’m familiar with Clos du Val and their reliably excellent wines. As a busy mom, I don’t always have time to browse the wine aisle.  I can quickly spot the Clos du Val label and run to the check out, as the Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are usually easy to find in major grocery stores.  The Clos du Val Stag’s Leap Cabernet [...]

Wine Wednesday: Screw Kappa Napa Merlot 2007

Most of our wine reviews tend to lean toward the positive because as a rule, we try very hard not to buy bad wine. I’m sure that most PR companies also try not to send bad wine as well. Thankfully, these two forces combined prevent us from tasting too many lemons. However, in the interest of keeping it real, the other day I did come across a wine that was not to my taste. I [...]

OK, so I know I’ve been  little heavy on the Luna but this…was…good.    I knew it was going to be good so I was anxious to drink it.  I haven’t had a bad Luna wine, as you can tell, whether it was sent to me complimentary or purchased myself.  This one was gratis, but normally retails for about $40.  We love both the Luna Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese, which are not typical Napa Valley wines.  [...]

I ran into Bevmo in a major hurry the other day.  I had no time to look and didn’t have anything particular in mind so I asked for a recommendation.  The guy stocking bottles in the Cabernet Sauvignon aisle said “uh, this one”, turned his back, and didn’t follow it up with anything else. So, I bought two bottles.  He was right, it was very good.  It was drinkable within a few minutes of opening the bottle [...]

Wine Wednesday – Clif Family Winery: The Climber 2008 White Wine

Clif Family Winery is the Wine Wednesday theme for today.  Last week, I posted solely about the winery itself, because I loved reading about their environmental efforts.  I also have eaten my fair share of Clif Bars and LUNA bars.  Our Trader Joes has a big display of them. I enjoyed The Climber 2006 Red Wine, but The Climber 2008 White Wine is my favorite.  I might be biased, however, as I’m currently on a white [...]

Wine Wednesday – Clif Family Winery: The Climber 2006 Red Wine

I wrote about Clif Winery last week so this week I’d like to focus on the actual wines.  The first wine we tried was The Climber 2006 Red Wine.  We had some people over so I intended to share it over a nice tri tip dinner (I actually marinated it in Jack Daniels and apple cider -  it was awesome).  This struck me as a red meat type of wine based on what I read. Someone [...]
