I‘m a little bit perplexed because I thought the BevMo 5 cent sale ended on Monday but online, it seems to still be going. I happen to be on a Shiraz kick lately.  This bottle is worth checking out especially if you locate it at your BevMo and it’s still on sale.  It’s regular price is $11.99 so during the 5 cent sale when you get the second bottle for 5 cents, that’s a whopping [...]

La Jolla Dad had decided to throw an impromptu Laker’s party last weekend.  I rushed into San Diego Wine Company as it was on the way home from somewhere I had to be.  Per usual, they were right by my side to help within a minute of me walking in the door.  Normally I like to browse first, but I burst out that I needed a case of red wine suitable for a party.  We [...]

Wine Wednesday: Layer Cake Malbec 2008, $13 tastes like $30-50

If you like Malbec wines, you’re going to love this Layer Cake.  Beware though, it’s a bold one. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave this wine a 91 rating and said “Dense, with notes of blackberry, earth and roasted meats. Add a hint of barbecue spice, this wine exhibits great fruit, delicious full bodied texture, silky tannins and a long finish. It does taste more like a $30-$50 bottle of Malbec than one that can be [...]

Originally, I bought Bitch wine totally for the label.  I love the label. Though it was completely appropriate for my Cupcakes and Wine mom blogger party and I had just seen it on Mama Mary’s blog.  Grenache and red velvet cupcakes seems like it could work. La Jolla Dad is drinking Bitch wine as I type this, pretty sure he doesn’t know what it’s called, but most likely he doesn’t care. I paid around $12 [...]

Wine Wednesday: St Hallett Gamekeeper’s Shiraz, Barossa Australia

This is one of the wines I bought at Whole Foods Market, La Jolla the other day.  As I’ve mentioned previously, we love Shiraz from the Barossa region of Australia.  It’s a place I intend to visit someday. St Hallett was established in 1944 and all of their grapes are grown in the Barossa Valley.  The Barossa Valley is a diverse enough region to produce a variety of wines, but it has some of the [...]

Wine Wednesday: WCP Cellars Cripple Creek Zinfandel 2005

As I’m attending the Paso Robles Wine Country 2010 Grand Tasting Tour today, I thought it would be appropriate to mention a Paso Wine, even if it’s not one of my favorites (though I liked it). This one was recommended by the staff at San Diego Wine Company. I paid $12.95 there, however, on the WCP Cellars website the bottle retails for $25. This is the second bottle that I’ve reviewed from San Diego Wine [...]
