Greg Norman is famous for his golf, there’s no doubt about that.  In 1995, he launched the the Greg Norman Estates.  I had the opportunity to try his wine and have since seen it in our local VONS and Trader Joe’s.  However, his daughter Morgan-Leigh Norman is a professional chef.  She put together a fabulous cookbook, pairing 11 of Greg Norman’s favorite dishes with wines from his estates.  This cookbook is Morgan-Leigh’s tribute to her [...]

Foppiano Vineyards is the oldest winery in Sonoma County, having been established in 1896. They have a very interesting and long history, which in California can be rare for wineries.  Foppiano Vineyards is very well known for it’s signature Petit Syrah, and LJM readers will love this fact: In 1927, during prohibition, “Federal Treasury agents raid Foppiano Vineyards, forcing 100,000 gallons of wine to be dumped in a nearby creek, making the spot the most [...]

Kind of.  I’ve been laughing about this for a few weeks now.  As you know, I’m in the Herman Story wine club and love the sense of humor of the winemaker, Russell From. Not to mention the wines are amazing. This what I saw when I opened the box.  Since you can’t see it, here’s what it says: “Many people don’t know that one of the hardest parts of being a winemaker is how difficult it [...]

I was in a hurry at VONS, La Jolla. This Cloudline Pinot Noir was on sale for a $15 and change in a six pack carrier. I love Oregon Pinot Noirs. I always like to have decent Pinot Noir handy.  People like it.  I feel like after Sideways the movie came out, Pinot Noir became very trendy amongst people that don’t know wine all that well.  Fussy grapes and all that. Winemakers Notes: “On the [...]

Wine Wednesday: Layer Cake Malbec 2008, $13 tastes like $30-50

Thumbnail image for Wine Wednesday: Layer Cake Malbec 2008, $13 tastes like $30-50

If you like Malbec wines, you’re going to love this Layer Cake.  Beware though, it’s a bold one. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave this wine a 91 rating and said “Dense, with notes of blackberry, earth and roasted meats. Add a hint of barbecue spice, this wine exhibits great fruit, delicious full bodied texture, silky tannins and a long finish. It does taste more like a $30-$50 bottle of Malbec than one that can be [...]

Wine Wednesday: Bitch South Australian Grenache 2008

Thumbnail image for Wine Wednesday: Bitch South Australian Grenache 2008

Originally, I bought Bitch wine totally for the label.  I love the label. Though it was completely appropriate for my Cupcakes and Wine mom blogger party and I had just seen it on Mama Mary’s blog.  Grenache and red velvet cupcakes seems like it could work. La Jolla Dad is drinking Bitch wine as I type this, pretty sure he doesn’t know what it’s called, but most likely he doesn’t care. I paid around $12 [...]
