Belle La Vie Spa in La Jolla

During Spa Week, spas and salons all over San Diego offer high-end treatments for just $50. It’s an awesome chance to check out a spa you haven’t tried yet or score a deal. Several boutique and hotel spas across the county are participating, but I had the chance to preview a microdermabrasion and rejuvenation facial treatment courtesy of Belle La Vie Salon & Spa in La Jolla, located across from UCSD on Holiday Court.

What Is Spa Week?

Fall’s Spa Week (October 14-20, though you can book treatments now) features discounts offered by spas across the county for $50, exclusive of gratuity. We’re talking massages, combined treatments, facials and more.

To book a Spa Week treatment, visit the Spa Week website and drop in your email. This allows you to search by state and city for promotions offered by spas near you. Book a treatment online through Spa Week or call to secure a spot—the reservation method depends on the spa. Note that bookings began on September 16. Reserve now to avoid disappointment.

About Belle La Vie Salon & Spa In La Jolla

Though Belle La Vie Salon & Spa is new, my therapist, Viktoriya, has an established and loyal clientele from previous positions. The spa itself is modest in size and scope with a vibe of just getting up-and-running.  It didn’t matter because I liked Viktoriya immediately. She has a cheerful yet no-nonsense demeanor that I appreciate because if I’m spending time on a treatment, it had better be thorough. That’s exactly what it was and my skin is remarkably improved.

Belle La Vie Salon & Spa is offering these treatments during Spa Week:

  • 50 Minute Rejuvenating Facial with Microdermabrasion for Face and Neck
  • 75 Minute Manicure and Spa Pedicure with Chocolate Scrub and Champagne
  • Single Process Root Touch Up with Organic Deep Conditioning Treatment, Shampoo and Style

I arrived for an appointment at 9:00am, prior to normal business hours, but noticed that the parking lot offered plenty of nearby spaces when I left around 10:00am.

Why Microdermabrasion?

I’m no stranger to microdermabrasion and wish I made time for a monthly treatment. Deeper peels perhaps peel too deeply for my liking and I find the aftercare and flaking too labor-intensive. Microdermabrasion exfoliates the top layer of skin off by blasting crystals on to it while simultaneously vacuuming them up along with dead skin.

The technique lacks downtime–just a sunscreen and you’re good to go, though stay out of direct sun for a day or two. Removing old skin allows those expensive moisturizers to penetrate and stimulate collagen more effectively. The treatment is complemented by a mini rejuvenating facial using high-end Yonka skin care products from Europe. In my experience, just the mircodermabrasion treatment alone averages $100 or more.

Viktoriya tells me that microdermabrasion is appropriate for all skin types, but especially helps those with:

  • sun damage
  • age spots
  • acne scarring and acne hyperpigmentation
  • blackheads and whiteheads
  • the appearance of fine lines and deep lines
  • loss of elasticity and firmness
  • stretch marks

The tired bags and fine lines surrounding my eyes were noticeably better and my skin tone is definitely more even. A few days after my treatment, a thin layer of skin peeled off that I accelerated with an exfoliant but that’s it. Easy.

I’d definitely see Viktoriya again. Visit Spa Week to book your treatment because they are the only spa in San Diego offering microdermabrasion.
