This is the most popular exhibit ever to grace the halls of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Based on a book of the same name, Grossology was there in 2007 and now it’s back for a limited time. We went and though the exhibit occupies just one room at the Fleet, we spent our entire visit there. Kids were loving learning the gross science of the human body from snot to indigestion.
Fun Grossology Facts
1. Hydrochloric acid in your stomach is so strong that it can eat up stainless steel razor blades.
2. The lineup at men’s and women’s washrooms vary because of the length of time it takes us to pee: men average 45 seconds; women spend about 79 seconds.
I know your day is complete now.
This guy was a big hit. Decide if you’d like to learn about allergies, snot or what have you. Press the corresponding button. He comes to life, as does some giant green snot hanging out of his nose.
Crank a lever to pump soda with bubbles into this guy’s stomach. The burp meter will trigger…you guessed it, a loud burp.
Because you’ve always wanted your child to climb up a wall of acne and warts.
Adults will also appreciate the life-sized “game” of Operation. Don’t touch the sides!
The GrossOlympics on July 7
Since it’s summer and the kids are home, perhaps you’re tired of listening to them cracking jokes and mimicking bodily noises. Take them to the Fleet on July 7 and let them get it all out there. Kids 6-14 can win prizes for the loudest burp, smelliest sneakers and more. Registration for the GrossOlympics is the day of, so arrive about an hour early. The schedule is in the top post photo.
Grossology will be at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center until January 1, 2013. Have you see it yet?
