La Jolla Girl has been on a milk strike. In desperation, I’ve been dropping Strawberry Nesquik (please advise if there is a healthier alternative) heart-shaped ice cubes into it. This, along with a pretty straw (purchased at Sweet Paper in La Jolla), seems to work.

This silicone tray can be frozen, put in the oven, and washed in the dishwasher. You can find similar on Amazon. The hearts are small but so cute. I also saw slightly larger heart silicone trays in the bargain bins at Target. You just push the ice cubes out from the back and they exit the tray in perfect form.

This batch also has frozen pomegranate juice ice cubes in it. They make gorgeous additions to water or, I suppose, cocktails. Pretty sure that Strawberry Nesquik should only go in milk.

Heart Ice Cubes
While my back was turned, My daughter dumped both kinds of ice cubes into her milk. This looks cute but didn’t taste good at all.

Heart Ice Cubes in Milk
I also make chocolate milk ice cubes and use other silicone molds. I just bought this Wilton gingerbread boy mold on Amazon and it makes super cute crayons (more about these later).

Milk drinker or not, fancy ice cubes are a cute addition to an otherwise plain drink!

  1. Very Cute!

Don’t feel bad about offering a low fat chocolate milk to La Jolla Girl. It’s actually used as a recovery drink for many athletes because of the perfect combination of protein and carbohydrates.

Look for powders with the lowest added sugar and sample a few. Maybe even have a blind chocolate milk tasting with La Jolla Girl and some of her friends. Adding a little chocolate to milk is well worth it if it convinces consumption.

    Good luck!

    1. Luckily as long as the milk is brown or pink, she doesn’t (yet) ask for it to be sweeter. I am waiting for that day. I taste it and I would want more added! Thanks for the reassurance!

  2. Love the heart shaped ice cubes-so fun! For a healthier alternative, my kids love homemade strawberry milk. Blend vanilla soy milk with fresh strawberries-that’s it! Or, blend regular(dairy) milk with fresh strawberries plus a little liquid stevia. (I like Nu Naturals liquid stevia). Cheers!
