Kids Crafts: Easy Candy Cane Reindeer

BY La Jolla Mom

It’s the last week before winter break, and my school-loving kindergartener would like to hand out something small to her classmates on Friday. As I type this, she’s whipping up a few dozen reindeer candy canes. The upshot is that they cost about 50 cents each and she has been quietly assembling them for over an hour. This kids craft is an easy way to keep them entertained while they’re on break, too.

Candy Cane Reindeer Supplies

Of course, almost everything can be bought at Michael’s.

  • Candy canes
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Very small wiggle eyes
  • A red self-adhesive rhinestone or puff ball for the rudolph-like nose
  • Glue, unless the wiggles eyes are self-adhesive (highly recommended)
  • Red ribbon

Making The Reindeer

The antlers are the hardest part. They took my daughter a few attempts to get “right.” Eventually, she just made up  her own version and they look completely fine for this purpose. She styled them in the photo above.

1. Make the antlers. Here’s a quick step-by-step:

3. Tie a bow around the candy cane. You could even make a small tag and attach it here, too.

Voila. I found them hanging everywhere as she finished each one.

Candy Cane Reindeer ChristmasIt had been a while since I’d purchased large candy canes. There’s all sorts of flavors and colors on sale at CVS right now. I bought the Life Savers candy canes along with a Vanilla Reload card to add to my American Express Bluebird account.  I paid with an airlines miles-earning card so earned miles for the entire purchase, including the Vanilla Reload card. Score. I’m a compensated tester of the Bluebird card for American Express to see how it fits into my daily activities.
