Located on the tip of the Baja California peninsula—where the desert meets the sea—Los Cabos is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Mexico. Resorts and residences here cater to every type of traveler. I had the opportunity to experience several very different Los Cabos properties that participate in THIRDHOME, a unique luxury second home vacation club.
Members of THIRDHOME make their second homes available to other members for weeks of time in exchange for keys to redeem for vacations at over 8000 properties around the world. These spectacular hotel residences, extraordinary private residences, and even yachts have an average value of $2.2 million.

Sleek Boutique Hotel: Mar Adentro Los Cabos (Now Viceroy Los Cabos)
As a hotel enthusiast, I was thrilled to check out Mar Adentro Los Cabos (now Viceroy Los Cabos). I haven’t seen a property quite like it.

Modern and sleek with thoughtful amenities, it’s designed to blend in with the ocean by renowned Mexican architect Miguel Angel Aragonés. Shallow pools fill the common areas and the wood surrounding El Nido restaurant is not only locally-sourced but also softens the clean lines of each building.
THIRDHOME members have the option to stay in the hotel’s residences which are complete with high-end appliances, fine bedding, terraces, and stunning interiors.

And, then there’s the gorgeous beach and kids’ pool.

Our lunch at El Nido was one of the best meals of the trip with light, beautifully-plated sushi and delicious cake.
If you’re a minimalist or just like modern boutique hotels, this is no doubt your spot in San Jose del Cabo.
A Beach Estate: Casa Sandcastle
Our home for the weekend was Casa Sandcastle, a gorgeous luxury estate with 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, staff, and spectacular ocean views. This style of residence suits those who prefer the amenities of home when away from home including plenty of common space, a pool, a game room, a movie theater and more.
It’s a great option for multigenerational generational trips, girlfriend getaways, single families or anyone who would like some peace and quiet in an extraordinarily comfortable space and on a secluded beach.

You can see the attention to detail in even the kids’ room.
I enjoyed a lovely manicure at sunset (with a margarita nearby) in these chairs.

Angie, the house manager, basically took care of everything we needed during our stay and housekeeping tidied my room daily.
Luxury Resort Near the Action: Hacienda Beach Club and Residences
There’s no doubt that Cabo San Lucas is full of energy. One of the best places to take it all in is from the patio of a beachfront residence at Hacienda Beach Club and Residences.

We sipped a variety of unique margaritas (mango chipotle pictured here), while watching boats filled with people people dance to music, dine and enjoy sunset cocktails on the water. The Land’s End arch, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, is visible from here. Medano Beach below is one of the best places to swim in Cabo San Lucas, too, and a private strip of sand here is designated for resort guests only.
The resort’s main areas include a rather large pool deck, a restaurant with amazing food and a very, very nice full-service spa.

Extravagant villas have up to four bedrooms, gourmet kitchens, and state-of-the-art technology. Many also come with private pools and balconies.

This is a great spot for those who like the feel and amenities of a larger resort (like me) in addition to being able to walk from a villa to restaurants and attractions. So much is right here, including the marina and a few shopping centers.
NEW THIRDHOME Travel and Concierge Division
As tempting as it is to stay put in a luxury residence, were spent time taking advantage of the various things to do in San Jose del Cabo. I hadn’t really explored the area before so it was nice to have someone else create an itinerary for us.
In the art district, we took a gallery tour and did some shopping.
A trip highlight was a cooking class at Los Tamarindos restaurant, which I would also highly recommend on your next Los Cabos vacation. We made a delicious chicken mole, stuffed zucchini flowers and more recipes after a tour of the garden (loved the purple basil margarita).
The beach in front of Casa Sandcastle is expansive and quiet. It’s the perfect place for a beach yoga class, something I might never have thought to have scheduled on my own.

I always appreciate having a professional in-the-know coordinate my itineraries. This is why the new THIRDHOME Travel and Concierge division includes the Enhance Your Stay service and Connect Your Stay. Here’s how they work.
