In partnership with Maui Jim. No joke, the first thing I noticed after donning my first pair of Maui Jim sunglasses is how crystal clear everything looked. They had arrived while we were in Paris.

On autopilot, quite tired from a much-too-delayed flight home, I grabbed my Pikakes (above) and rushed into the car forgetting they were brand new. I was reminded the second I pulled out of the driveway into SoCal sunshine with a drastically improved view.

What a difference good lenses make.

My old shades had taken a beating and while they were a high-end, designer pair, I’m pretty sure the lenses were nowhere near the same quality. I see fewer shadows and a brighter landscape through Maui Jims.

There is plenty of sun where Maui Jim is headquartered in Lahaina, on my favorite Hawaiian island of Maui. These sunglasses were created to protect eyes from the harsh rays of the island sun. And, we have harsh rays here in La Jolla, too, where the sun shines most of the year.

These sunglasses are unique because of a patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology that blocks 100% of UV rays and eliminates glare while enhancing color, definition and depth perception.

Maui Jim sunglasses have earned the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation as an effective UV filter for the eyes and surrounding skin.

I’m wearing the Sunshine cat-eye style here in tortoise with navy blue. The lenses are made with SuperThin (ST) Glass which provides the absolute best optics available. It’s 20% thinner and lighter than standard glass and offers the best scratch and solvent resistance.

Don’t mistake lightweight for poor quality. Who wants to wear heavy sunglasses anyway? I barely notice these on my face. I’m also not getting (so far) those annoying impressions other glasses sometimes leave on my nose.

The Pikake has more of a rounded cat-eye. I like to wear these on an everyday basis because of their casual look. The turquoise hue blends in well with my black-centric wardrobe.

My husband has taken over my Mavericks, which are awesome titanium aviators. They’re unisex anyway. I like the silver color because my jewelry is platinum. I know where to find them, if I need them!

Here’s the gist of what you need to remember:

  • Instead of dimming the light or filtering colors out (which is what some sunglasses do) colors are enhanced using natural light. In my opinion, this allows wearers to actually see more.
  • Over 90% of the Maui Jim frames are available in prescription.
  • Whether you need a quick fix or a major overhaul, Maui Jim offers unequaled repair service, with fast 3-day turnaround for most repairs.
  • You’re bound to find a style that suits you because there are so many choices.

  1. So true! We call mine my magic glasses. We discovered what a difference polarized lens make when we were looking into water and I kept pointing out fish and my family thought I was crazy and then we realized it was because of my sunglasses. I love Maui Jims!
