7 Good Reasons to Road Trip This Summer
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Marriott Resorts. All opinions are 100% mine.
Even if summertime weather and activities are stellar where you live, a change of pace can still refresh the soul and keep the kids from encountering boredom. Road trips are quite possibly the easiest way to take a quick vacation because they don’t involve much advanced planning.
For example, I drove to Indian Wells last week which is an awesome desert community about 2.5 hours from San Diego. The drive was incredibly easy with open highways and zero traffic. It’s amazing how different life can be within a short road trip from where you live. And, I thought to myself, “Why don’t I do this more often?” I love the desert and it’s not that far away.
Here are reasons why we all should take road trips this summer.

1. You CAN Just Do It
Tired of cooking? Feel like you need a quick break? It is possible to check into a hotel the same day you book a reservation. Remember that you can pack and just go.
2. There Are Deals to Take Advantage Of
Check out the Marriott U.S. Resorts Celebrate Summer Event. Get $100 in resort credits for each day you stay that can be used on-site at one of the many restaurants, spas and other recreational activities available at over 30 U.S. Marriott resorts including Renaissance, JW Marriott, Gaylord and Autograph Collections properties across the United States. Book your stay before September 7, 2015 to get the deal.
Now, having just spent the day luxuriating around Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa (who happens to be participating in this promotion) and knowing my family’s resort habits, $100 per day is a real savings to us because it’s money we’d spend on poolside cocktails and treats anyway.
3. No Airplanes
This goes without saying. An entire layer of stress is removed when you eliminate the hassle of getting to the airport, going through security, worrying about delays, dealing with the chaos of others traveling and then some.
4. You Can Create Your Own Schedule
If the kids aren’t ready to get out of the pool, it’s O.K. to delay your departure. If you feel like stopping at the Desert Premium Outlets (which is exactly what I did on the way to Indian Wells) to shop for a while, it’s completely fine. Road trips allow for itinerary flexibility.
5. You Can Take More Gear
When traveling with young kids, it’s often much more convenient to pack your own gear like diapers and travel cribs. The kids can take more toys and you don’t have to stress about fitting it all into a suitcase or two. Packing a cooler full of snacks you know everyone will like not only saves money, but also headache.
6. Different Recreation
Properties like Marriott U.S. Resorts do a good job of incorporating the surrounding areas into the resort while also encouraging guests to get out and explore. Not only does a new city provide a wealth of new-to-you things to do, it’s also refreshing to swim in a different pool or golf at a different course.
7. Good Food
I always appreciate a break from cooking and doing dishes when on vacation. It also helps if the food is good, which it certainly was at Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa. While waiting for my event to start, I ordered up this fancy avocado toast that was not only reasonably priced but so good!
