After all of the holiday shopping, cooking, cleaning and entertaining, a resort vacation sounds like bliss, doesn’t it? A lot of people are inclined to think that December vacations are expensive–and, of course, some are–but they certainly don’t have to be.

The Pick Your Package promotion by Marriott Resorts runs through the end of the holidays (12/31) and puts travelers in the drivers’ seats of their vacations. Choose from golf, spa, resort credit, or suite packages to customize the perfect vacation for you and your family!

Not sure where to go? Here are five awesome family vacation destinations to consider.

Palm Desert

We love visiting Palm Desert in the winter as it’s only a few hours away from San Diego. The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa has one of the most expansive swimming pool complexes of any Palm Desert resort. How good does a nice cocktail, a lounge chair and nowhere to be sound? The mile-long El Paseo shopping area is nearby for those who still have the urge to browse. Rates starting at $389 include either a round of golf for two or a choice of a Deep Cleansing Facial or a Swedish Massage.

Coronado

Vacation or staycation on Coronado Island with a view of the downtown skyline over the San Diego Bay. The Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa sprawls over 16 acres including three heated pools and an intimate spa. Not to mention, there are a number of fantastic restaurants and shopping sprinkled around Orange Avenue. Rates start at $259 and include a $50 nightly resort credit or spa choice.

Vail

Forget the shuttle to the lifts, the Vail Mountain Marriott is a 3-minute walk to the Eagle-Bahn Gondola and some of the world’s best skiing! Not to mention, you can fly into Eagle airport and skip the long shuttle ride in from Denver. It’s a little bit like being in a European village with a perfect mix of luxury and recreation. Stay five nights (you’ll want to, anyway) in a holiday suite or opt for the spa.

Scottsdale

Combine modern adventure with Arizona charm at Marriott’s first resort with a history dating back to 1936. JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort and Spa is a golf lover’s dream with two championship courses. But, there’s also plenty of hiking, biking and other outdoor activities to experience in the Sonoran Desert. The spa is legendary, too. Get this: Package rates start at $279 with a choice between a family suite or $100 nightly resort credit.

Sonoma

Believe it or not, there are plenty of things to do with kids in Sonoma (including a number of truly family-friendly wineries). But, if a couples escape is in order, wine country fits the bill. Package rates at The Lodge at Rennaissance Sonoma Resort and Spa start at $199 and include a $50 nightly resort credit or spa option. The spa draws on the region’s herbs and plants including grape seed oil and lavender. Blissful, right?

(I actually lived in the JW Marriott Hong Kong for about a year. Let me tell you, it was pretty awesome.)

  2. The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort would be the perfect gift for my wife. She loves Palm Desert and the pool looks amazing!
