Just exit the I-5 freeway at the Encinitas Boulevard exit and head west. You’ll end up right at the beach’s doorstep.

It has a gently sloping foreshore that makes it one of the best places around to get out in the water. There’s also a designated swimming-only zone.

Lifeguards watch over the beach in every season. Seasonal lifeguard towers also pop up along the beaches here between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

There aren’t that many San Diego County beaches with fire pits, so Moonlight’s first-come, first-served fire rings are a treat for classic Southern Californian beach bonfires.
