I’ll let you in on a little secret. My husband wanted to live in Encinitas. Many people like it because it’s less touristy and a bit more laid-back than other affluent beach towns in San Diego.

A lot of concierges we talk to in North County refer their guests to Moonlight Beach here even though it’s further from some of the Carlsbad beaches. That’s because of the amenities from a seasonal cafe to rentals, great sand, and even a playground for kids.

The boutique hotel here where we have benefits is Alila Marea Encinitas Beach Resort. People like that it’s in a quieter beachfront location that skews a bit more adult-centric. You can also find some good budget accommodations.
