Certain San Diego hotels can be booked with my benefits directly through my Virtuoso page (links to each San Diego hotel are below), while I need to generate quotes for others manually.

I’ve included some extra guidance under each hotel mentioned below so that you have a better idea of what may or may not fit into your budget. I’ve included a little bit of insider advice and time-saving shortcuts where applicable.

BOOK SUMMER HOTELS ASAP

Rates will only increase as the dates approach and inventory decreases. Some hotels are already sold out on certain dates.

Hotels You Can Book Online Now

Eligible hotels for online booking include the below. In each section, I’ve highlighted some tips and time-saving shortcuts to give you an idea of what kind of pricing and benefits to expect.

It is much faster to book online through Virtuoso.com when you can (I’ll see the reservation and follow up with you), as it may take 24-48 hours for me to return a manual quote due to increased volume.

Location: Coronado

Between now and at least the first week of July, please book the following view categories:

  • Resort View Victorian
  • Cabana Pool View
  • Cabana Oceanfront

The reason is that they are working on the Windsor Lawn in the heart of the resort. It’s the oval lawn on the resort map that some view types would otherwise overlook. A wall with faux green foliage and twinkle lights surrounds the construction on the ground floor level, but rooms on higher floors would see what’s inside of it. Please also check the hotel’s welcome page for what’s open and closed on the resort before you book (and again before your stay — more things are scheduled to open soon).

The Virtuoso rate is usually a few dollars less than the Hilton Honors rate (you’ll need to create a Virtuoso account and log in to see this price). You will earn Hilton Honors points. The Virtuoso amenities that I can add to your stay include:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability (room upgrades are not possible in Beach Village)
  • Daily breakfast credit of $40 per person for two guests per bedroom
  • $100 USD equivalent Food & Beverage credit to be utilized during stay (not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

*The desktop version of Virtuoso.com is where you’ll search rates and book online. To enable the desktop version from a mobile device, after clicking on a Virtuoso hotel link, scroll down to the navy blue section at the bottom of the web page and click “Full Site.” When searching rates on Virtuoso, do not input children ages 17 and under as they will be priced as adults. I’m notified when you book and will add them when I contact you about your reservation. You can also use my form to request rates.

Beach Village at The Del below is also a great place to stay no matter what is happening on the main resort because they are not renovating.

For more information, read my detailed guide to Hotel del Coronado.

Location: East Del Mar

I love this resort. It’s one of the places where feedback that I receive is constantly positive. The Virtuoso amenities you have access to there include:

  • Upgrade at time of booking, subject to availability (excluding suites)
  • Daily continental breakfast for two guests per bedroom, served in Amaya or in-room dining (up to $70 per bedroom per day)
  • $100 USD Activity credit per stay, valid for golf play, golf instruction, the Spa services, and/or Explorer’s Club fees to be utilized during stay (cannot be combined, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full – not valid towards retail or Haim Salon Services)
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

They do have a 4th night free promotion running on select dates between now and the end of the year. If you don’t see it during your dates when searching on Virtuoso, it’s probably not on offer. The Virtuoso rate then will be probably a little bit lower than Fairmont’s Flexible Daily Rate.

Occasionally, you might see rates on Fairmont.com that look more advantageous than Virtuoso. All-in they’re usually not (or perhaps some magic can be worked to make them on par). In that case, use the form below.

Location: La Jolla (near UCSD)

Here is another place that I adore and so do my clients. I have a lot of repeat guests here and if you golf, this is definitely the place to stay because they can very likely secure tee times at Torrey Pines and have relationships with other clubs around town (great way to play some members-only courses).

When you log into Virtuoso (or create an account if it’s your first visit), you’ll see that the Virtuoso rate for this property is lower (by about 10-16% depending on the date from what I can tell) than what you would otherwise receive booking their Best Available Rate directly. Plus you receive the following Virtuoso amenities:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Full breakfast daily in restaurant for two guests per bedroom (up to 60.00 credit per day)
  • $100 USD equivalent Resort or Hotel credit to be utilized during stay (not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability

Location: Rancho Santa Fe

This is one of our nicest resorts, if not the nicest especially if you’re looking for a wellness-centric vacation or staycation. It’s a Relais & Chateaux property (which means the food is also excellent).

It’s an all-suite resort but to have a truly separated living room from the bedroom go with the Palm Suites and higher.

You can book Rancho Valencia Resort with the following Virtuoso amenities:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Daily full breakfast for two guests per bedroom (maximum $40 credit per person)
  • $100 USD Resort/Hotel credit, (Not valid in Sheridan, the resort’s boutique. Not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Location: Downtown San Diego

If you’re looking for a luxury urban boutique hotel, Pendry San Diego is the best choice. Their customer service is fantastic on my end and on your end — they will take great care of you.

It is family-friendly, however, the pool can have a party scene on the weekends that families should be aware of before booking in.

The Virtuoso amenities you have access to include:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Breakfast credit at Provisional Restaurant or In-Room Dining for two guests per bedroom daily ($30 maximum per person, per day)
  • $100 USD Resort or Hotel credit to be utilized during stay (not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Location: Downtown San Diego

Here’s a historic hotel in downtown San Diego that prices really well for what you get. Part of the reason is because they don’t have a swimming pool or full service spa, but most travelers won’t miss either one.

Virtuoso amenities you have access to include:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Full breakfast daily for two guests per bedroom in The Grant Grill or via room service (maximum value of $60 per day)
  • $100 USD Food & Beverage credit to be utilized during stay (not combinable, no cash value if not redeemed in full, available in the Grant Grill or via room service only)
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Hotels I’ll Need to Quote For You

There are some hotels where I have benefits that I’ll need to quote for you manually. I try to respond immediately but it can take 24-48 hours due to summer demand.

To help save time, I’ve included valuable information in the drop-downs below that may help you figure out which room, rate, or place to stay is right for you.

Location: Carlsbad

The best way to book ANY Four Seasons hotel is through the Four Seasons Preferred Partner program that you have access to through me. Benefits include:

  • $75 Daily breakfast credit
  • One-time resort credit: $100 for Superior King Guest Rooms, $200 for One Bedroom Villas, $300 for Two Bedroom Villas
  • Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in (excluding signature suites, villas, and private residences)
  • Complimentary basic Internet in all guest rooms; complimentary premium Internet in all suites
  • Welcome note at check-in acknowledging you and your travel agency and the amenities that are being extended
Four Seasons Preferred Partner logo

There are basically four room types. Please note that there are no two bed rooms which I am often asked to quote. The only room is a Superior King, which has a king bed and a sofa bed in it. The other accommodations are one-bedroom villas. A two-bedroom villa can be created to sleep — if you need this let me know.

The general rule of thumb is that any room rate you see on fourseasons.com can have Preferred Partner benefits applied to it. There are also occasionally Preferred Partner promotions that are even better.

This resort is extremely popular right now thanks to its layout, self-parking, in-villa kitchens, and five-star service. It is sold out on many weekends through the summer. You may want to check fourseasons.com to see if it’s available. If it’s not my next suggestion, which is also an excellent one, is Park Hyatt Aviara next door.

With this hotel, some people find my information after they already have a reservation. If you booked it through FourSeasons.com, send it to me and I will see if they can add on the benefits to the reservation you already have (same with other Four Seasons properties).

For more information read my full Four Seasons Aviara review.

Location: Coronado

Beach Village at The Del is the luxury enclave at Hotel del Coronado. Beach Village guests have access to everything on the main resort but main resort guests do not have access to Beach Village or its amenities.

Beach Village has its own pools, and BV guests have access to the Windsor Beach Club, in addition to complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas (not an insignificant benefit).

Accommodations here are outfitted like designer residences and you will received an elevated level of service.

During off-peak season, expect to pay no less than $799/night for the starting accommodations (Coastal View Villa Room). During the summer peak season, expect to pay no less than $1100/night on the very low end. That starting price is even higher than that on most peak dates and can be up to $1500/night during busier dates.

There are just over 70 accommodations here so book ASAP to avoid disappointment.

The Virtuoso rate is currently 4% off of Hilton’s Best Flexible Rate. (You can get a feel for rates on Hilton.com.) Plus, you receive the same Virtuoso amenities as Hotel del Coronado.

Location: Carlsbad

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa often has sale rates available directly through Omni. If you check rates with them and Best Available Rate works for you, I can add Travel Leaders Select benefits that include:

  • $100 Resort credit per stay
  • Complimentary full breakfast for two at VUE (this temporarily is grab-and-go at Marketplace)
  • Early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability)
  • Room upgrade at time of check-in (subject to availability)

Note that this is often a two-step process. I will secure your rate. Then it may take the hotel several days to add the actual amenities to your reservation.

Please keep in mind that this is a four-star resort. If you are a stickler for service and attention to detail, go to Park Hyatt or Four Seasons. For more information read my Omni La Costa review.

Location: Mission Bay

This resort used to be Hilton San Diego Resort, but it was taken over by Noble House who updated the rooms and dining experiences.

For stays of one or two nights, the Noble SELECT VIP rate that I have access to is the best way to book. These benefits are added to the resort’s Best Flexible Rate, which you can check online.

  • $25 Resort credit for one night stays and $50 resort credit for two night or longer stays
  • Waived resort fee
  • Upgrade at the time of check-in (subject to availability)
  • Welcome amenity

For stays of three nights or longer, the Spring Forward promotion running through June is the best rate because it comes with a $20/day resort credit and waived resort fee. I can book this for you, too, if you need help deciding which room to choose.

For more information, read my San Diego Mission Bay Resort review.

TIP: I get a lot of requests for San Diego Mission Bay Resort from people who meant to request Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Resort. Be sure to note the differences between the two so that you request rates for the correct resort.

Location: Mission Bay (20-minute walk to Mission Beach)

Hyatt Regency Mission Bay is located on Mission Bay but does not have a bay beach. It does have a great pool deck though with three waterslides (kids must be 42″ tall to ride them).

The Hyatt Prive benefits I can add apply to stays of two nights or longer and include:

  • $100 USD Property Credit
  • Room Upgrade*
  • Breakfast for Two
  • Welcome Amenity
  • Guest Welcome Letter
  • Early Check-In*
  • Connecting Rooms*
  • Free Wifi

* Subject to forecasted occupancy. The room upgrade happens 24-hours after booking, if it is available. A frequently asked question about this hotel that I receive is whether the $100 credit can be used for parking. The answer is no. Parking is $42/night.

For more information read my Hyatt Regency Mission Bay review.

Location: Rancho Bernardo

This hotel will be one of the most reasonably priced on this list. It’s mostly because of its location, but don’t let that dissuade you because it’s not too far from the Safari Park and some wineries that I like. People who want to relax, golf, spa and spend time on the resort will enjoy it.

They have a ton of promotions running at all times. The standard Preferred Platinum amenities that I can offer are applied to the resort’s Best Available Rate, which you can check here.

  • Best Available Rate
  • Breakfast for Two Daily
  • $100 Hotel Credit per Stay (to be used on services such as spa, dining, or selected amenity valued at $100 or more)
  • Hotel Welcome Amenity and Welcome Note from General Manager on behalf of Travel Agency
  • Complimentary In-Room Internet
  • Room Upgrade*
  • Priority Check-in and Check-out*

*Subject to availability

HOWEVER, if you want to let me know your dates, I can see what they can offer as sometimes this is flexible. I can also have rooms guaranteed to connect without additional fees.

For more information, read my Rancho Bernardo Inn review.

Location: Downtown San Diego

This is a really neat boutique hotel. Note the room sizes and locations (lower floors can have a little street noise like any urban hotel).

  • Priority for complimentary room upgrade (based on availability upon arrival)
  • Daily breakfast for two people
  • Chef’s welcome amenity
  • VIP status granted
  • Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

For more information, please read my review of The Guild San Diego.

Location: Encinitas

Alila Marea Resort Encinitas is a brand new beachfront boutique hotel on the cliffs overlooking the beach near South Ponto Beach. It’s beautiful with fire pit rooms. (Note that the pool is really small.)

  • Room Upgrade*
  • Breakfast for Two
  • Welcome Amenity
  • Guest Welcome Letter
  • Early Check-In*
  • Connecting Rooms*
  • Free Wifi

* Subject to forecasted occupancy

Location: La Jolla

Grande Colonial is a historic hotel located on prestigious Prospect Street in La Jolla. It prices really well given the location and has recently refreshed its rooms.

I am happy to help you pick a room and book any rate at this family-owned property, but I can add Travel Leaders Select benefits to rooms at Best Available Rate, which you can check here.

  • 100 USD Food & Beverage credit
  • Complimentary full breakfast for two daily (excludes alcohol)
  • The property will offer early check-in and late checkout upon availability
  • The property will offer an upgrade at the time of check-in (subject to availability)
