Many of our clients choose The Seabird Ocean Resort & Spa in Oceanside when they want an upscale San Diego beach resort at a friendlier price point. And more often than not, they end up genuinely impressed by the experience.
Set along the Pacific, the hotel channels a clean, modern Southern California look with simple lines, uncluttered spaces, and a relaxed beach-house feel that keeps the focus on the views. It also fills a real gap in the neighborhood as Oceanside continues to evolve.
Another advantage: The Seabird sits directly next to its sister property, Mission Pacific Hotel. Guests enjoy signing privileges at both, which expands dining and activity options. And when you book through us, we can secure Hyatt Prive benefits at either hotel.

Why Stay at The Seabird Ocean Resort & Spa, a Destination by Hyatt Hotel
As the sister property to the Mission Pacific Hotel next door, The Seabird Resort shares many similarities with its neighbor. They’re both Hyatts. The Seabird is officially designated as a Destination by Hyatt hotel, while the Mission Pacific falls under the scope of JdV by Hyatt boutique hotels.
The Seabird has a few unique amenities, such as a library and a full-service spa. While kids are welcome at hotels, I recommend that families book at The Seabird over Mission Pacific. It’s more family-friendly with a roster of kids’ activities and amenities. Couples tend to choose Mission Pacific (and I agree with this choice), but they’ll be happy at The Seabird, too.
The other key difference? The pool at Mission Pacific Hotel boasts a cool rooftop location, complemented by a trendy bar (and is therefore more adult-centric in the evenings). The Seabird’s outdoor pool is also fantastic and a bit more laid back. Guests of both properties have access to both pools.
Once you’ve accounted for the full scope of Seabird and Mission Pacific attractions — plus the restaurants and picturesque views — it’s easy to see why The Seabird Resort is already regarded as one of the best hotels in Oceanside.
How to Choose Guest Rooms and Suites at the Seabird Resort Oceanside
Contemporary designs and beautiful artwork can be found within The Seabird Resort’s many rooms and suites. Lovely views are also an integral part of the experience, with some rooms overlooking the ocean while others offer cosmopolitan scenery.
My Advisor Tip
As mentioned previously, noise can be a concern. The hotel is located right by the beach and near public transit, but the convenience this provides is accompanied by extra street and rail noise in the morning. Request a quiet room – they do exist. The hotel will give you ear plugs.
Rooms are primarily categorized based on the number of beds and the type of view they offer. The better the view, the higher the price point.

- 1 King Bed, City View
- 2 Queen Beds, City View
- 1 King Cityscape Family Room (small suite specialty room)
- 1 King Bed, Poolside View
- 2 Queen Beds, Poolside View
- 1 King Bed, Partial Ocean View
- 2 Queen Beds, Partial Ocean View
- 1 King Bed, Ocean View
- 2 Queen Beds, Ocean View
- 1 King Bed, Oceanfront
- 2 Queen Beds, Oceanfront
- 1 King with Ocean Front Premier (corner specialty room)
Accessible Rooms: Accessible Room Options: 1 King Bed Accessible, 1 King Bed Accessible Ocean View, 2 Queen Beds Accessible Shower, 2 Queen Beds Accessible Tub.
Rooms range from 371 to 397 square feet. Connecting rooms are available by request only and can’t be guaranteed. For families who need more space, I highly recommend the Estate Suite or Grand Estate Suite, which have two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
My Advisor Tips on Room Selection
No Bathtubs in the rooms
The showers are quite nice but families with small children should note that there are not bathtubs. There are ADA tub rooms.
Seabird Resort Room Amenities
Amenities vary slightly from one room to the next. Regardless of whether you stay in an ocean view room or one with a partial ocean view, you can expect the following:
- Flatscreen HDTV with premium channels
- Free WiFi
- Beverage cooler
- Illy coffee maker
- Complimentary water bottles, which can be filled at alkaline water stations
- A steamer instead of an iron and an ironing board
- Individually controlled air conditioning
- Drybar hair dryer
- Apothia bathroom amenities
- Plush robes and slippers
The Seabird Ocean Resort Suites
In addition to the many rooms described above, The Seabird Resort offers several exclusive suites, including:
Grand Ocean Suite
Take in a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean from the unique vantage point of the appropriately named Grand Ocean Suite.
Spanning over 700 square feet, it is a wonderful option for couples but can also accommodate extra guests with its sleeper sofa and extra half bath.
An ADA-friendly version of this suite is also available, complete with a roll-in shower for its spacious bathroom.
Estate Suite (Top Pick for Families)
This vast suite spans over 1,200 square feet, so you should have no trouble finding space to relax. You’ll get a wonderful night’s sleep in the king bed or one of the queen beds. Curl up with a book in the reading nook or enjoy a spa-like experience in one of two bathrooms.

As with the Grand Ocean Suite, the Estate Suite offers a more accessible version. Instead of a roll-in shower, this particular suite includes a bathtub with grab bars.
Grand Estate Suite (Also Popular With Families and Multigen Trips)
Like the Estate Suite, this space provides over 1,200 square feet. The two-bedroom suite is equipped with a huge furnished balcony, where you can soak in the sun alongside loved ones. We have extended families who book this a lot.
Perched on the sixth floor, you’ll enjoy the most glorious view at The Seabird Resort. Relax by your private fireplace as you enjoy the pinnacle of luxury.
Dining at The Seabird Resort Oceanside
Excellent cuisine abounds in and around Oceanside, but there’s something to be said for the convenience of dining on-site. If you stay at The Seabird Resort Oceanside, a few steps will take you from your room or suite to one of the region’s finest restaurants. Limited room service is available, but you’ll have far more fun eating in one of the restaurants or at Mission Pacific. Keep in mind that you can also head to Mission Pacific for a great meal.
I highly recommend Valle at Mission Pacific, but you will need to make a reservation well in advance.
The Shelter Club
When you need a bite but don’t want to venture far from the outdoor pool, you can grab a tasty snack or beverage at The Shelter Club. This poolside bar and lounge is only open to hotel guests, so it has a uniquely exclusive feel.

Whether you order a burger, nachos, or a hummus dish, you will be impressed by the fresh selection. Dine indoors to take a break from the sun or outside to enjoy the view.
The Shore Room

Indulge at The Shore Room, where you can order a delightful cocktail and take in the pristine view. Several small eats are also available, including Charcuterie, flatbread, and oysters. If you have a sweet tooth, feel free to order the memorable mojito ice cream with candied lime.
Piper
Garden-to-table dining is the name of the game at Piper, where every meal is wonderfully fresh. Capturing the best of upscale California coastal cuisine, this restaurant boasts an appealing open kitchen layout, plus a lovely patio.

I love the breakfast buffet here! There is a large selection, including many baked goods, an omelet station, fruit, lox, a few international dishes, and a lot more. Make reservations for breakfast during busy seasons.
Otherwise, you’ll love filling up on California-craft pasta for dinner. Young visitors love the flatbread and pulled chicken featured on the impressive children’s menu.
Our Hyatt Prive guests receive daily breakfast for two per bedroom at Piper.
Hotel Amenities at the Seabird Resort Oceanside
When you aren’t eating your fill at the onsite restaurants or relaxing in your room, you’ll want to explore the many amenities offered at The Seabird Resort.
The outdoor pool is a must-visit, of course, but the resort also has plenty to offer for book and beach lovers.
The Outdoor Swimming Pool

Nothing says a Southern California getaway like an afternoon at the pool. At The Seabird Resort, you can settle into a lounge chair, feel the ocean breeze, and enjoy the kind of easy, coastal downtime people come here for.
The beach is only steps away, so it’s simple to bounce between the pool deck and the sand. The area also includes a Jacuzzi, which is especially welcome after a full day of exploring.
Advisor Tip: The pool is heated, so it’s comfortable year-round, even during cooler “May Gray” mornings. The hot tub is on the smaller side and can feel busy at peak times.
Award-Winning Sunny’s Spa

A day at the pool is great, but for a proper reset, the spa is where you’ll find it. Sunny’s Spa is located right on the property, which makes it easy to fit a treatment into your stay.
It’s popular with both guests and locals, thanks to its clean design, calm atmosphere, and thoughtful, holistic-leaning treatment menu. You’ll find a mix of massages, body treatments, and facials, along with options tailored for men, teens, and expectant mothers.
Advisor Tip: This spa was voted the #2 Best Hotel Spa in the U.S. by USA Today!
Salon
In addition to the onsite spa, The Seabird Resort has a salon (known as the Beauty Lounge) that provides several services to level up your look.
Manicures and pedicures are top offerings, but you can also depend on this salon to make your hair look amazing via balayage or color touch-ups.
Library
A library might not be the first amenity you think of when picturing a luxurious seaside resort — but if you set aside a little time to unwind in this special space, you’ll realize just how magical a hotel library can be.
Featuring a vast collection of titles and several comfortable window seats, this charming room invites you to unwind as you immerse yourself in a good book. You’re also welcome to play a game of chess at the glass table or browse the gorgeously bound books.
Fitness Center
After a day by the pool or a quiet break in the library, you may want something a little more active. The fitness center at The Seabird Resort makes it easy to stick with your routine.
You’ll find all the basics: treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and a solid selection of weight machines. Peloton bikes are available for those who prefer guided workouts.
Large windows bring in natural light and a coastal view, which helps the space feel open and keeps the mood up while you’re getting your workout in.
Beach Amenities

If you find The Seabird Resort’s proximity to the acclaimed Oceanside Beach appealing, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the hotel’s beach amenities, which are covered under your resort fee. Every room can rent four chairs, one umbrella, one basket of sand toys, and one boogie board for free.
You’ll pick these up from the Beach Rambler, a restored Airstream, steps from the sand. It’s shared with Mission Pacific and is also open to the public.
Advisor Tip: It can run out of chairs in the peak season, so get there early.
Little Seabirds Program & Family Perks
The Seabird’s romantic suites and polished bars make it an easy pick for couples, but families are absolutely welcome here. The Little Seabirds program gives kids plenty to do and gives parents a breather.
Expect hands-on activities like crafts and scavenger hunts, plus a complimentary Daily Craft session (think sand art, rock painting, or seashell decorating). There’s also a Build Your Own Stuffed Animal workshop for an additional fee. Most activities are free for guests of both The Seabird Resort and Mission Pacific Hotel.
Advisor Tip: On select nights (usually Fridays and Saturdays), the program offers a Kids Club for ages 4–14, allowing parents to slip out for dinner. And right in front of the resort, there’s an excellent public beach playground that’s perfect for younger kids.
Bookable Resort Experiences & Workshops
Beyond the usual amenities, the resort offers several experiences you can book directly:
Paint, Sip & Gaze
Led by local Oceanside artists, this class walks you through creating a coastal-inspired painting. The workshop includes an 11×14 canvas, all supplies, guided instruction, and two glasses of wine. Advance sign-up (24 hours) is required.
Surf Club with Whitlock Surf Experience
Held on Saturday mornings at Harbor South Jetty Park, this club is open to surfers of all ages who want to sharpen their skills in a friendly, coached environment.
Kids’ Surf Session
For kids six and up, this 7.5-hour surf day, run in partnership with Whitlock Surf Experience, covers surfing, an eco-tour, a lifeguard meet-and-greet, and even a mock jet-ski rescue. The day wraps with a poolside lunch and organized activities back at the resort.
Landmarks & Local Highlights Around The Seabird Resort

The Seabird Resort is conveniently located near several of Oceanside’s most noteworthy attractions. Its idyllic location near the beach ensures that you can experience the best of the coastal experience throughout your stay. Be sure to build these landmarks into your travel plans.
Oceanside Pier
No trip to Oceanside is complete without a stroll along the pier. At nearly 1,950 feet long, this local icon holds the distinction of being the longest wooden pier on the coast of the western U.S. Take a leisurely walk on the pier at sunset, when you’ll be amazed by the picture-perfect scenery.
Strand Beach
This family-friendly beach is packed with amenities such as picnic tables and easily accessible bathrooms. Parking is relatively easy, although, as a Seabird Resort guest, you can easily reach this particular beach on foot. Crowds aren’t typically a problem here, so you can enjoy a serene beach experience.
Oceanside Harbor Village
Treat yourself to a whimsical view of the marina as you take a casual stroll at the Oceanside Harbor Village. You’ll enjoy watching the boats as they arrive and depart. Several excellent restaurants are located at this charming destination.
