I’ve stayed at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village several times over the years and have always appreciated its peaceful location and expansive spa. It wasn’t always a top request from clients—but that’s changed.

After a recent renovation and the debut of a large, kid-friendly outdoor pool, the hotel has become much more versatile. We’re now seeing a real uptick in interest from families, girlfriend getaway groups, and wellness-minded travelers who want flexibility. It’s a great fit for guests who want serious spa treatments, but also the option to relax by the pool, enjoy cocktails, or dine out without strict retreat rules.

I have another reservation for the spring, but in the meantime, this updated Four Seasons Westlake Village review reflects the hotel’s current offerings, based on our client feedback, plus what’s new for couples, families, and anyone planning a laid-back yet elevated California escape.

  • One of the most expansive and beautiful spas in Southern California
  • Thoughtful family amenities and seasonal programming
  • Perfect for a wellness-centric trip without being restrictive
  • The new family-friendly pool
  • Outstanding service consistent with the Four Seasons brand

Good to Know

  • Guest rooms have recently been refreshed with updated amenities
  • Indoor pool is family-friendly, and so are select nail treatments, but wellness center amenities are adults-only
  • The property is a favorite for weddings and conferences — weekdays can be quieter
  • Not much to do within walking distance

Location: Between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara

Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village sits just off the 101 freeway in the quiet, upscale community of Westlake Village, though you won’t find attractions or restaurants to walk to.

It’s about 20 minutes inland from Malibu’s beaches and an hour north of Los Angeles, depending on traffic. The hotel’s location makes it a peaceful base for exploring Southern California without the hustle of the city.

You’re also close to:

  • Malibu Wine Country (15–20 minutes away)
  • Ronald Reagan Presidential Library (a great learning stop with interactive exhibits)
  • Camarillo Premium Outlets (if you’re in the mood to shop)
  • Santa Barbara (about an hour’s scenic drive north)

Everyone I’ve booked into the hotel lately is going there to chill with no big sightseeing plans. They want spa, pool, wellness, and Four Seasons service.

Dining at Four Seasons Westlake Village

From sushi and spritzes to wellness bowls and wood-fired brasserie fare, the hotel’s dining scene is versatile and easy to enjoy—whether you’re in spa mode or poolside with kids.

Coin & Candor

Coin & Candor is a wood-fired California brasserie with a seasonal menu and warm, open-kitchen atmosphere. It’s a favorite for brunch, lunch on the terrace, or a relaxed but refined dinner. Families are welcome, and high chairs are available.

Popular dishes include the flatbreads, rotisserie chicken, and seasonal salads.

ONYX

ONYX is the hotel’s modern Japanese restaurant, known for its sushi, sashimi, and sake flights. The space is elegant and low-lit, making it ideal for date nights or quiet dinners after the spa.

Try the chef’s sashimi platter or miso-glazed black cod.

The Cove Kitchen & Bar

Located in the new outdoor pool area, The Cove offers Baja- and Mediterranean-inspired poolside dining. Guests can eat at shaded tables or directly from their loungers. It’s casual, kid-friendly, and ideal for sunny days.

Favorites include the Baja fish tacos, mezze platter, and frozen cocktails.

Prosperous Penny

This cocktail lounge channels a speakeasy vibe with dark wood, leather seating, and a bold whiskey-forward menu. It’s best for adults looking to unwind in the evenings after dinner or spa treatments.

Signature drinks include the house Old Fashioned and barrel-aged Negroni.

Stir

Stir is the hotel’s café just off the lobby, serving Loquat Coffee, fresh pastries, smoothies, and pressed juices. It’s perfect for quick breakfasts or light snacks before or after wellness appointments.

Guests often grab an almond milk latte and banana bread on their way out.

In-Room Dining

We’ve ordered a lot of room service here.

Room service is available 24/7 and includes a mix of healthy, seasonal fare and classic comfort food. The menu is family-friendly, allergy-conscious, and ideal for quiet mornings or relaxing nights in.

Recommended options include the California omelet and the Farmer’s Market fruit plate with local honey.

The Spa + Center for Health & Wellbeing

If there’s a single reason many people choose this hotel, it’s the 41,000-square-foot spa and wellness center—one of the largest in the entire Four Seasons portfolio. This isn’t just a place to book a massage. It’s a full-scale sanctuary where advanced skincare, holistic healing, and results-driven wellness come together under one roof.

Whether you’re coming for a single treatment or a multi-day transformation, this is where the magic happens.

Westlake Village Spa & Salon Highlights:

  • 28 treatment rooms, including couples’ rooms and outdoor suites with private garden patios
  • Steam rooms, dry saunas, hydrotherapy options, and indoor/outdoor relaxation lounges
  • Expert therapists offering everything from deep tissue to lymphatic drainage, body contouring, and microcurrent facials
  • Spa suites available for small group bookings or extra privacy—some with plunge pools and fireplaces
  • Rhythm & Hair offers special occasion, cut and color, barbering, and nail services

I quite like the adults-only outdoor spa pool. I’ve had several excellent treatments here over the years. And my daughter has too.

The Center for Health & Wellbeing

For guests who want to go deeper, the spa is integrated with the hotel’s Center for Health & Wellbeing, which offers clinical-grade services and wellness programming:

  • Fitness assessments, nutrition consultations, sleep coaching, and stress management
  • Body composition analysis and customized treatment plans
  • Lifestyle wellness programs (1–3 days) that pair spa, fitness, and food with expert coaching
  • Integrative experiences like sound baths, yoga, and healthy cooking classes

It’s an ideal setup for guests who want wellness in a choose-your-own-adventure format—without committing to a rigid detox or retreat.

Pools & Outdoor Recreation

Four Seasons Westlake Village completely reinvented its pool experience in 2024, making it more resort-like, more social, and far more family-friendly than before.

The Cove Pool, Kitchen & Bar

This new two-acre outdoor area feels like a standalone resort within the hotel. It includes:

  • A resort-style outdoor pool with terraced loungers, hammocks, and shade canopies
  • Three whirlpool spas
  • A bocce ball court and activity lawn perfect for families, small groups, or laid-back afternoons
  • The Cove Kitchen & Bar, offering Baja- and Mediterranean-style bites, plus cocktails and smoothies

There’s no need to leave for lunch or drinks—everything is available poolside, including full service to cabanas and loungers.

You can buy day passes to the pool through The Spa, currently $200 per person.

Other Pool Options

  • Serenity Pool – Adults-only and adjacent to the spa, this is the quiet, elegant pool experience for those seeking tranquility and cabana service away from the bustle.
  • Indoor Pool – A large, skylit pool perfect for rainy days, post-dinner swims, or traveling families looking for an all-weather option.

Whether you’re coming for spa days, family downtime, or a sunny pool to read beside with a cocktail, the variety of pool experiences now matches the rest of the resort, something that wasn’t true before the remodel. Most of our clients book pool cabanas through the Four Seasons app or the spa directly.

Gardens, Waterfalls, and the Pagoda: The Hotel’s Most Photographed Spot

The pagoda is really neat in person.

Tucked behind the hotel is a beautifully landscaped garden area complete with flowing waterfalls, koi ponds, a Japanese-style pagoda, and meandering walking paths. It feels like a secret sanctuary, a peaceful, natural extension of the hotel’s wellness focus.

Guests use this space for quiet morning strolls, reflection, and casual family time, and it’s also a popular backdrop for weddings and events. You’ll often see guests in spa robes sitting by the koi pond or taking photos at golden hour.

The pagoda sits at the heart of the garden, surrounded by lush greenery, and feels intentionally placed—it’s both a visual anchor and a symbol of the hotel’s East-meets-West wellness influence.

Holiday Season at the Hotel

The Christmas tree at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, California

We’ve actually attended Christmas events here in the past, and Four Seasons Westlake Village still goes big for the holidays.

Expect elaborate Christmas trees, festive lobby décor, seasonal menus, and holiday-themed breakfasts, often with character appearances and kid-friendly treats. The atmosphere is festive but elegant, making it a favorite time of year for families and multigenerational stays.

Tip: Book early for mid-December weekends as they’re popular with locals and repeat guests.

Why It’s Now Great for Families

I never had an issue staying here with my daughter, but it wasn’t the most family-friendly of the Four Seasons in the LA area. Now, that’s changed with The Cove pool.

All family-friendly highlights include:

  • The Cove Pool – a lively, sun-drenched outdoor space with space to play and relax
  • Bocce ball court, activity lawn, and lounge seating for all ages
  • Kid-sized robes, slippers, and stuffed animals upon arrival
  • Spacious rooms and suites that accommodate cribs, rollaways, and larger groups
  • Seasonal programming like family movie nights, themed breakfasts, and crafts
  • Proximity to attractions like Underwood Family Farms, Malibu, and the Reagan Library

It’s now the kind of place where you can book a massage, let the kids swim outside, and regroup over a leisurely dinner without ever feeling like you’re compromising on luxury.

Who Stays Here and Why

This hotel draws a diverse crowd:

  • Wellness seekers who want a curated health experience without rigid rules
  • Couples looking for rest, recovery, and room service
  • Multigenerational families who wish to space, service, and zero stress
  • Locals on staycations, especially spa weekends or birthday getaways
  • Business travelers and wedding guests during midweek and off-peak seasons

It’s not a party scene or beachfront, but for guests seeking balance, calm, and easy access to both the city and the coast, it’s a fantastic pick.

Wish we could go! Heading in the other direction this year. Love the snowflake lights reflecting on the ice and my son would go crazy for the smores. Happy Holidays Katie!
