Originally published in October 2017. Have you ever checked into a hotel and thought it would be perfect if only a handful of things were different? I have.

A new concept is set to rock the world of savvy travelers as they can actually play a role in designing the world’s first crowdsourced and crowdfunded boutique hotel.

As a frequent luxury hotel guest, I take note of what the hotels do to make a guest’s experience rather extraordinary. And, I’m positive other travelers will contribute even more fabulous ideas. I can’t wait to see how the project comes to life.

What Is Amberlair?

Amberlair is a name that was also crowdsourced. Amberlair is the idea of founders Marcus and Kristen who discovered after traveling the world together that the most special and unique experiences were brought on by staying in smaller, independent hotels.

Marcus and Kristin, the founders of Amberlair which is a crowdsourced and crowdfunded boutique hotel first to open in Puglia.

They’ve spent years building their community of #boholovers (boutique hotel lovers). Location feasibility studies were made. Ultimately, of all the destinations presented, the #boholovers chose Puglia as Amberlair’s first location. The #boholovers will be the ones to help Amberlair transition a historic villa to Puglia’s first luxury boutique hotel. And, I’ll tell you how to join this group of people, many of whom I know and respect.

Amberlair will turn this historic Puglia villa in to the area's first luxury boutique hotel, completely crowdsourced and crowdfunded.

The current project allows for 60 rooms: 30 rooms in the historical villa, 10 rooms in a unique farmhouse building situated amidst olive groves and vineyards, 10 cave or spa rooms and 10 luxury tents.

Each room will have a different style and its sure to give Puglia travelers an experience they won’t find anywhere else. Not to mention the grounds are beautiful.

Why Puglia?

Well, first of all, it seems that Puglia is in need of luxury boutique hotels like Amberlair. So, this fact is incredibly important.

It’s also remotely located between the Ionian and the Adriatic (two seas with gorgeous clear water) and is within easy reach of beaches.

Puglia, Italy is famous for its gorgeous beaches.

Puglia is also quite famous for wine tourism and was voted one of the world’s Top 10 Destinations for Wine Tourism in 2013 by Wine Enthusiast USA.

Those, like us, who enjoy edutainment while traveling will love that there are a myriad of UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby. Sites in Amberlair’s close proximity include Castel del Monte, Castellana Grotte, Trulli of Alberobello and Lecce.

How to Get Involved

Amberlair’s IndieGogo campaign has launched!

Backers can participate, interact, influence, support, back, fund or simply lay back and watch it happen from the very beginning. Participation will be via various challenges. Backers will be able to help decide things like what the perfect hotel bathroom should look like to the amenities put inside of it through submission of ideas and then voting on the most popular ones.

The rewards available range from 15 € to 4,900 €. Each level comes with a variety of benefits.

Think about how lovely it will be to relax on this beach.

I’m really excited to see how the hotel turns out and can’t wait to book in myself.
