Four Seasons Residence Club San Diego, Aviara is nestled amid rolling foothills in relaxed coastal Carlsbad, just 40 minutes north of Downtown. I like to call it a hidden gem.
I’ll tell you why it’s one of my most booked and requested properties in the County. The intimate residential-style San Diego luxury resort earns many repeat guests who check in for long and short stays.
One and two-bedroom residences have full kitchens, fireplaces, and separate bedrooms from living rooms. There’s also the option for a king room with a sofa bed and wet bar.

Renovation Notice / Temporary Closures
If you’d like to stay at a Four Seasons for a super price, then during these date ranges might be your best bet. However, you’ll have to expect a little work.
Please note that the Summits Clubhouse, including the lobby and Club 760, will be closed for renovations from October 2 and will reopen on December 8, 2023. The Summits fitness centre, locker rooms and Summits Grill Pool Bar will be closed for renovations from December 2, 2023, and will reopen on February 11, 2024. The Summits Pool will remain open with poolside food and beverage service for the majority of the renovations, and Palmera Pool at our Meadows Village will remain open for poolside food and beverage service throughout the renovations.
How to Choose Residences and Guest Rooms
The only Four Seasons in San Diego offers luxury accommodations, including nearly 250 well-appointed king guest rooms and various one- and two-bedroom residences (all referred to as villa rentals).
Each accommodation exudes coastal elegance with ocean and sand-inspired décor. You’ll find luxurious features like plush pillow-top Four Seasons beds with comfortable down comforters, cozy sofa beds, and oversized furniture in their rooms and residences. (I own Four Seasons bedding because I love it so much.)
They also provide a kitchenette (king guest rooms) or a fully equipped kitchen (one- and two-bedroom villa rentals) with a microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle, and upgraded appliances. Grand bathrooms with designer toiletries, large flat-screen televisions, iPod docking stations, washers and dryers, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning are also included. When you don’t feel like using your kitchen fully, barbecue grills around the resort are also for guest use.
Each accommodation features fully-furnished private balconies with stunning views of the rolling foothills, Aviara Golf Course, or the Batiquitos Lagoon.
Superior King Guest Room
Located on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd floors, Superior guest rooms embody the casual elegance of SoCal. Featuring 180-degree views of the Lagoon, golf course, or foothills, you can expect a small kitchenette with a microwave, sink, and minirefrigerator.
A sofa bed can sleep one adult or two kids. This is a bonus for parents who prefer a king bed. You’ll also have a pretty marble bathroom.
Rooms are located in either the Meadows or Summit neighborhoods, and provide 425 square feet of space. They can accommodate two adults and two children or three adults.
One-Bedroom Resort Residences (Top Pick)
Feel right at home in this spacious villa offering 1,245 square feet of space in either the Meadows or Summit villages. Located on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd floors, they can accommodate three adults or two children and two adults.
They feature a master bedroom with a master en suite, a sleeper sofa in the living room, a powder room with a full shower, a fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen with a large double-door refrigerator. These residences also offer views of the foothills, lagoon, or golf course.
One-Bedroom Premier Resort Residences
Slightly larger, the One-Bedroom Resort Residences provide 1,330 square feet of space and can accommodate up to six adults or four adults and two children.
They are located in both Summit and Meadows villages but only on the third floor. These bright and airy top-floor residences each have a fully-equipped kitchen, two private balconies, a powder room with a full-size shower, and a view of the lagoon, golf course, or gardens. (Remember there is no elevator.)
You have a pull-out sofa in the living room. The master bedroom comes with a master en suite and also a pull-out sofa next to the bed.
Two-Bedroom Resort Residences
The only two-bedroom option, this is the perfect accommodation for larger families and groups. With 1,670 square feet of space, they can accommodate up to four adults and two children.
Located in either neighborhood, Meadows or Summit, they are equipped with fully-furnished kitchens, an open living and dining area, two bedrooms with king beds and master bathrooms, two sofa beds, three bathrooms, and three balconies with a view of either the golf course, lagoon, or foothills. These are VERY popular with our clients because of the value for what you get.

With handcrafted seasonal menus created by some of the most renowned chefs in the world, your taste buds are sure to be pleased any time of day or night in any of their amazing eateries.
From their elegant main dining room to their in-room dining and everything in between, the menus are creative, elegant, and extremely well-curated, utilizing only the finest and freshest local ingredients.
A proud supporter and partner to local San Diego farmers and producers, their well-known suppliers include NEWPORT Meats Co., Santa Monica Seafood, and Prager Brothers Bread.
Seasons Barista Bar
For a quick pick-me-up or a fast snack to tide you over until the next meal, stop in at Seasons Barista Bar. A warm and cozy coffee shop offers a selection of gourmet grab-and-go goodies, fresh-squeezed juices, teas, and specialty coffee and espresso drinks.
Everything is artfully prepared, from the pastries to the lattes, plus signature sandwiches and hand-selected bottles of New World and California wines.
Seasons Restaurant
Seasons Restaurant has exposed beam ceilings, classic handcrafted wicker and wood furniture, and beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows. It is the epitome of California chic. Infused with natural light and a contemporary beach-town charm and décor, it’s the culinary epicenter of the Residence Club.
Featuring farm-to-table cuisine focusing on local, seasonal ingredients, they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily in this fresh and relaxed environment.
You’ll find a variety of classic and diverse SoCal fare in everything from their Hash Brown Stack — poached eggs, hash browns, sausage, tomato, arugula, sour cream, and hollandaise to their Avocado Benedict and Lemon Ricotta French toast for breakfast.
Lunch brings you a unique selection of soups, salads, burgers, wraps, and seasonal signatures like Skuna Bay Salmon or Beal & Pork Bolognese.
Dinner offers an eclectic array of starters, soups, salads, and mains paired with a small menu of delectable sides. Pan-seared swordfish or a 7-ounce prime petit filet, maple bourbon carrots, and whipped Yukon potatoes are just some examples of what could be in store for you here.
Seasons Barista Bar
The lobby bar restaurant for take-out is Seasons Barista Bar. Here you can pick up a gourmet coffee and delicious sandwich and take a bottle of wine back to your villa.
Seasons Summits Grill
When you’re ready for a break from splashing around the pool, Seasons Summits Grill provides al fresco dining around the Summits Pool.
You can dine on selections like freshly made fish tacos, washing them down with specialty cocktails. Their famous Sirloin Burger and California Cobb salad are popular lunch menu choices.
They also feature an incredible kids’ menu. Little Surfers includes th chicken tenders, grilled cheese, a cheeseburger, and an all-beef hot dog with sides like celery sticks, carrots, and fries.
Palmera Pool Dining
Spend the day at the Palmera Pool without figuring out what to do for lunch, thanks to their outdoor poolside menu. Created at the Summits Grill, you can choose from a small menu of tempting offerings from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, served waterside by professional and attentive staff members.
Providing a little something for everyone, the menu features a collection of shareable bites, salads, burgers, and wraps. Parmesan Truffle Fries and the Chef’s Whim Ceviche are just a few delicious choices.
In-Villa Dining
Whether you’re interested in a quiet dinner for two, a family-style dinner, or an impromptu lunch, in-room dining at Seasons has you covered from day to night. A fun children’s menu is also available.
You’ll find an impressive collection of breakfast favorites, starters, soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pasta, housemade signature dishes, and mouthwatering desserts like their famous chocolate chip cookie with vanilla bean milk — an ideal bedtime snack for your littles.
Culinary Experiences
Keep an eye out for special culinary experiences that you may be able to enjoy while at Four Seasons Aviara. These can include anything from live music to Wine Wednesdays, Weekend Brunch, and more.
The Heated Swimming Pools
There are two gorgeous outdoor pools on the Four Seasons Aviara property. One is in the Meadows neighborhood, while the other is in the Summits neighborhood.
They are heated at a comfortable 83 degrees Fahrenheit year-round and surrounded by plush chaise lounges. Each also features a separate children’s pool and a heated whirlpool.
Palmera Pool
Located just steps from the Meadows Clubhouse, the Palmera Pool is a grand free-form outdoor pool that reaches 4.5 feet deep and features underwater music the kids will love. You’ll enjoy upscale amenities, including chilled towels, Evian spritzes, and poolside service of food and refreshments. Private cabanas are also available for guest use.
As a bonus, you can enjoy the gentle coastal breeze and listen to the soothing sounds of rustling palm trees with a poolside massage provided by the professionals at Driftwood Spa.
Summits Pool
Nestled near the Summits Clubhouse, Summits Pool is a free-form pool offering the same great amenities as the Palmera Pool, including Evian spritzes, complimentary bottled water, and chilled towels.
Poolside food and beverage service comes from Summits Grill and is delivered straight to your lounger. The pool reaches a depth of five feet.
Both pools are known to offer guests surprise snacks and icy treats occasionally. My daughter looks forward to these treats at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts worldwide. It’s all about the little details.
Beach Life at Four Seasons Aviara
Hit the beach like a local with help from the resort’s surf concierge, beach rentals, and beach town tour guide. Whether you’re a novice or an expert surfer, the resort’s “wave connoisseur” will have you out on the water in no time with everything you need for a successful surf session.
Four Seasons Aviara offers beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, and beach toys for a fun day out on the sand.
For the ultimate beach experience for you and your family, check out one of their three exceptionally designed beach town tours — Historic Highway 101, Del Mar Drive, and Encinitas Beach Cruise & Outing. A local guide, Bruce Wood, leads all tours. He’ll give you the inside scoop for the area of your choice as he drives you around in a vintage, wood-paneled 1951 Ford Woodie Station Wagon.
Each tour includes its own list of landmarks and highlights where you’ll stop off and explore the neighborhoods and their most prominent sights as you delight in the sunshine and fresh coastal air.
Driftwood Spa
With a décor inspired by the ocean and gorgeous light-toned wood furnishings that reflect the sands of its beautiful beaches, Driftwood Spa is a beautifully designed space providing everything you need to relax and unwind.
There are three uniquely designed spa treatment rooms, a well-designed nail salon, an ultramodern fitness room, and a yoga and Pilates studio. Services include massages, skincare therapies, body treatments, and nail care.
Find your bliss, soothe your spirit, and calm your mind before or after any Driftwood Spa treatments in their serene Relaxation Lounge. Relax with a cup of tea and a nutritious, light snack as you read or enjoy a few minutes of quiet meditation before returning to your vacation.
Driftwood Spa at Four Seasons offers a spa day that guests who aren’t staying overnight can take advantage of. It includes a $40 lunch credit to Seasons, access to Palmera Pool, free self-parking, and a 50- or 80-minute treatment choice.
Fitness Center and Activities
There are two fitness centers at Four Seasons, one in Meadows providing 1,530 square feet of space and one in Summits offering 1,037 square feet of space. The latter is situated next to Driftwood Spa, near the yoga pavilion.
Both centers overlook a sparkling pool and feature state-of-the-art cardio and weight training equipment with private televisions and personal headsets. A collection of treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, stair climbers, weight machines, and free weights are available at both locations. They also have separate men’s and women’s locker rooms featuring steam rooms and showers.
Four Seasons also offers a wellness program featuring personal training for individuals, couples, and groups; circuit training; and daily group fitness classes, including yoga, Pilates, and barre — a full-body workout inspired by ballet. Yoga-Lates, Nia Dance Fusion, and Golf Strength & Flexibility — a 60-minute class focused on strengthening your shoulders and core — are just a few additional classes they offer.
If you’re interested in personal training sessions, they provide various workout packages, plus one-hour nutrition consultations. Additional fees apply for workout classes and all personal training sessions.
Four Seasons Yoga Pavilion
Relax and unwind in this open-air sanctuary while experienced professionals guide your body through transformative yoga classes. Four Seasons offers various yoga styles, including Vinyasa — a breath-synchronized and movement yoga, Hatha Yoga — a holistic yogic path, and Restorative yoga — a gentle healing Hatha style that utilizes props.
Recreational Sports Onsite
Guests also have access to the activity centre which offers sand volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, and croquet. You can also take a walk along the lagoon walking trail.
Golf
Four Seasons is located in the heart of golf country, with access to some of the best golf courses in Southern California, including the onsite Aviara Golf Club, TaylorMade Aviara Performance Center, and Aviara Golf Academy.
You may also want to check with the concierge to see where else you can secure tee times.
Amenities for Children
Children are valued guests at Four Seasons Residence Club San Diego, Aviara. If you’re wondering why I ask you for the names and ages of your kids when you reserve a stay here (or at other Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts worldwide), it’s because they like to create a personalized experience for them, too. This can include goodies and treats.
You can also request practical gear so you don’t have to pack it. This includes complimentary baby/child toiletries, child-size bathrobes, cribs, high chairs, and childproofing equipment.
Kids also have their own private Club 760, a completely tricked-out playroom highlighted by red furniture featuring fun bean bag chairs and various gaming consoles, including Wii and Xbox.
Club 760 provides various activities such as arts and crafts, board games, books, Ping-Pong, movies, video games, and swimming. It’s mostly a non-staffed play area, so kids ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult unless staff-supervised activities occur.
However, check the schedule, especially in the summer, for supervised play times for ages 4–12, so you can hit the spa or play golf while they’re having a blast.
Babysitting services are also available with advanced notice and for an additional cost.
Friends and Family at Seasons Lounge
Unwind with friends in a warm and cozy atmosphere in Seasons Lounge. Equipped with various plush seating and ample tables, this area is ideal for some friendly competition between loved ones with its billiards table and board games.
It’s also the ideal place for quiet relaxation with a warm and inviting fireplace, large plasma-screen television, and a quaint window seat — the perfect reading nook.
The Aviara Neighborhood in Carlsbad
The quiet Carlsbad, CA neighborhood surrounding Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara is predominantly residential. Park Hyatt Aviara is next door to the resort.
Both overlook the tranquil Batiquitos Lagoon. Those interested in exploring this ecological reserve can hop on one of the Four Seasons Golf Course trailheads connected to the main trail and Nature Center. Trail guides identifying unique points of interest are available at the Nature Center or from a bird box at each trailhead.
The drive to the beach depends on which beach you choose. In Encinitas, Moonlight Beach, just over 15 minutes away from the resort, is popular with guests for its excellent amenities, including sand volleyball courts, a children’s playground, and seasonal live music. South Carlsbad State Beach is the closest beach at about 10 minutes by car.
Other nearby attractions include Carlsbad Village, a quaint seaside retail village of unique shops and restaurants; LEGOLAND California and SEA LIFE Aquarium theme and water parks; Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park; and the 37-acre San Diego Botanic Garden.
One of the concerns that I receive the most about this resort is whether it’s too far north. It’s not, but whether the location is right for you also depends on how much you value the resort amenities and what your San Diego vacation itinerary entails. I can help you figure this out when you send me your dates below.
During normal times, there can be traffic at rush hour along the I-5 corridor between Carlsbad and Downtown. Without traffic, the drive to San Diego Airport is about 35 minutes. With traffic, it can take significantly longer. You can plan around traffic. Many guests love this resort so much that they don’t mind driving to the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park.
