e.l.f. Cosmetics Review and Giveaway

Iadmit, I am in the you get what you pay for camp MOST of the time. I have 2 drawers full of partially and unused expensive cosmetics and I’m not sure why. Before Christmas, I purchased some e.l.f. lip gloss (Lip Shine SPF 15) and Peony Petal body wash. I shop frequently at Beauty.com and I think I needed just a few more dollars to qualify for free shipping so I chose these e.l.f. products. Guess what? I like them. I was on Twitter one day and I mentioned this to @eyeslipsface (Twitter ID) and graciously sent me some other samples to try. I’m grateful they did, because some of the products they sent I hadn’t tried before and will definitely buy again. e.l.f stands for “eyes lips face” and here are a few reasons why I like e.l.f. in general:

1. The price – just want until I tell you how much the stuff I like costs! They use the internet and other social media to get the word out about their products instead of paying high advertising costs. They also claim they keep their prices low by getting competitive pricing for their ingredients and by using minimal packaging.

2. No animal testing

3. An extensive line of products (all at reasonable prices). This is good because not everything works for everybody. If you’re trying to find a good product that won’t break the bank, I think a big selection is key and you’ll be more likely to find what you need.

4. There is also a mind boggling amount of information on www.eyelipsface.com. If you don’t know how to use a product or if you need some advice, it’s no problem. They have a virtual makeover tab that I tried. It helps you get the look you want!

Ok, here’s a few products I like. Remember, e.l.f. has hundreds of products and I haven’t even scratched the surface yet. And I also don’t typically wear that much makeup.

e.l.f. Lip Glosses: I paid…..get ready……$1.49!!!!! Seriously. This is for the Lip Shine SPF 15 in Malt Shake (I also have Watermelon). I will add that I always apply lip gloss with a DuWop Reverse Lipliner, Colorless from Beauty.com that keeps the gloss in it’s place. I also like e.l.f.’s new Mineral Lip Gloss which has no parabens, preservatives or chemical dyes. Go with any e.l.f. gloss that appeals to you.

Studio Lip Primer and Plumper ($3.00): This is my new best friend, especially at $3.00. I had just paid about $30 for a lip primer before e.l.f. sent me this one and the e.l.f. one works better. Sigh. It’s a double sided ”pen” with plumper on one side and primer on the other. Anyway, the primer is great under lipstick and helps me to keep it on almost all day. It says you can wear it with gloss too, but it would have to be dark gloss since it goes on almost white. I accidentally answered the door when the UPS guy came with just the primer on and he looked at me like I was a big weirdo. So then you prime, put on lipstick and then use the plumper over it. I used the plumper on half of my lip and my husband was able to pinpoint the plumped side which is saying something. He doesn’t notice stuff like that. It gives my lipstick a nice finished look. I would say, however, that if you don’t like the taste of cinnamon gum or the sensation that it can leave on your lips, then you may not like the plumper. It’s yummy cinnamon flavored. Also, don’t use the plumper if you lips are unusually chapped because it might sting. If you’re not wild about the cinnamon thing, for $3.00, buy this anyway for the primer.

Mineral Eyeshadow Primer ($3.00): Since I don’t typically wear eye shadow unless I’m going out, I would add a disclaimer that I’m not an expert. I am learning though. I like that this makes my eye lids look more hydrated and youthful. This is the first eye shadow primer I’ve ever used so I have nothing to compare it too but it looks like my shadow stays on longer and looks more professional. This is preservative and paraben free with no chemical dyes. Other beauty websites, including e.l.f.’s, give this product a VERY high rating.

I also like the nail polish. e.l.f. has fun colors and it lasts a pretty long time, though I slather all brands of nail polish with Seche Vite top coat. The Peony Petal body wash I’ll buy again.

Everyone I know is picky in one way or another about makeup. For instance, my powdered foundation I’ve been using for years, it works for my skin and you’d have a hard time convincing me to buy anything else. But for those beauty products that I don’t have an attachment to, I’m giving e.l.f. a shot. If you are looking to trim down your spend on beauty products, you really should check out e.l.f. Or if you tired of your current look and want to experiment with another without breaking the bank, that’s another great reason to try e.l.f!

I am IN LOVE with the new duo-fiber kabuki brush from the studio line, its amazingly soft and applies just enough product so you dont look cakey.
