I shop almost exclusively online these days. I still go to the mall, but I find myself rushing to get out of there as quickly as possible because now that I have La Jolla Girl, time is precious and I don’t have that much of it. If I can shop at a website that’s eco friendly and contemporary, that’s even more of an added bonus. I’ll even spend a little extra $$$ to do so.

Enter Funky Greeen Machine, www.funkygreenmachine.com. Uncommon Cool is their slogan for a good reason. They have fun, unique products on there that I’ve not seen in stores. I am particularly taken with their kids onesies and t-shirts. They kindly sent me the one above for La Jolla Girl that says “My Tricycle is a Hybrid”. The t-shirt is made in India of organic cotton, in a fair labor environment. It’s also Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified which means that rigid environmentally and socially friendly production standards have been met. The t-shirt so far has washed very well on a normal cycle and I’ve received quite a few chuckles and compliments. I’m pleasantly surprised by how soft the cotton is.  It’s timely too since we’re on a big tricyle riding binge after I researched and wrote riding a tricycle is a pre reading skill.

I also love these organic onesies and am going to buy some as gifts. Make sure to check out all the kids clothes on Funky Green Machine. It’s a great place overall to buy a gift for someone that already has everything, gifts for second babies (I always struggle with this) or a gift for someone that appreciates environmentally friendly products. Pomegranate is all the rage these days and you won’t be disappointed by Tilvee’s pomegranate soap (I received a sample) and I’ve heard their pomegranate scrub is very good too.

How cool are these Eco Nap Dog/Cat beds? They are machine washable. These mats have an eco fabric, milled in the USA with 85% of the fabric comprised of IntelliLoft^™ fibers which recycled plastic soda-pop bottles! These beds have been tested and found to be completely safe. An Extra Large dog bed saves over 40 plastic bottles from going into the landfull and a medium bed saves more than 21 bottles.

The owners of Funky Green Machine are witty writers too. For example, one of the FAQ’s tucked in with questions like “Do you offer gift wrapping” is “Will you admit to listening to Celine Dion or MC Hammer?” They also have a blog that is quite funny. They discuss politics, sustainable living, their own products and have a “Douchebag of the Week” feature that’s worth a laugh. In all seriousness though, they started Funky Green Machine out of growing concern for the environment and they are certainly doing their part. Tank the solar powered robot and Twig, the green plant (of course!) are a part of their very hip logo.
