LEGOLAND California’s Brick-or-Treat is one of Southern California’s most anticipated family Halloween events. A successful visit, however, requires some strategy.
This guide is updated for the 2026 event, which runs on select dates from September 19 through November 1. I attended in 2025, and the strategy advice below comes from that visit.
Whether this is your first visit or part of a yearly tradition, I’ll walk you through:

Before we get into the details, there’s one essential distinction to understand and it’s where I see many families get confused.

Know the Difference: Brick-or-Treat vs. Halloween Season
LEGOLAND California has TWO fall celebrations. The park hosts both a general Halloween Season and the premier Brick-or-Treat Monster Party.
Halloween Season (Sept. 20 – Oct. 30)
Halloween Season is a festive, park-wide overlay included with standard admission. Guests will enjoy Halloween-themed LEGO displays, real pumpkins throughout the park, and seasonal food and treats. It’s a great option for families seeking a low-key visit with lighter crowds.
Brick-or-Treat Monster Party (Select Dates, Sept. 19 – Nov. 1)
Brick-or-Treat is the resort’s signature Halloween event. It includes all the decor and festive energy of the Halloween Season, plus exclusive entertainment, themed trick-or-treating trails, costume contests, and specialty shows available only on select nights. If your kids want to wear costumes and hit the candy stations, prioritize these dates.

Brick-or-Treat Admission Explained: Tickets, Sightseeing Passes & Free Kids Offers
Brick-or-Treat does not require a separate event ticket. Admission is included with any park ticket dated for an official event day, a structure LEGOLAND introduced in 2025 and kept for 2026. I applaud this move as it makes it easier and more cost-effective for families to attend.
As always, it’s best to purchase tickets online and in advance, both to save money versus gate prices and because select nights do sell out.
2026 Brick-or-Treat Dates & Park Hours
These are the dates you’ll want to ensure you have tickets for to attend Brick-or-Treat.
- September 19, 26
- October 3–4, 10–11, 17–18, 24–25, 31 (all Saturdays and Sundays, including Halloween itself)
- November 1
Another notable benefit is that the park stays open until 8 p.m. on event nights, and until 9 p.m. on the October Saturdays, against a 5 p.m. close on an ordinary October day. That buys you a rare stretch of LEGOLAND after dark. The exact hours are listed on the LEGOLAND California calendar.
General Admission Tickets
For the event dates mentioned above, any dated park ticket gets you into Brick-or-Treat. That includes:
- LEGOLAND Park Tickets (SEA LIFE Aquarium entry is now included free with all park tickets)
- Resort Hopper tickets, which add the Water Park
- Multi-day tickets, like the Resort Hopper + 2nd Day FREE in my authorized ticket store
Yes, even discounted LEGOLAND tickets include Brick-or-Treat on event dates. For a single day, LEGOLAND’s own site currently has the lowest price, especially with the discounted event tickets available through August 30. For two days, the Resort Hopper + 2nd Day FREE in my store costs less than LEGOLAND’s own two-day ticket and adds the Water Park.
Kids Free San Diego (October)
LEGOLAND California has participated in the Kids Free San Diego promotion every October for years, and the program returns October 1–31, 2026. LEGOLAND’s specific 2026 offer had not been published as of this update. It usually appears in September.
In past years, the offer has been one free child Hopper ticket (ages 2–12) with the purchase of a full-price adult Hopper ticket, with Brick-or-Treat event nights included. Because the adult ticket must be full price, it cannot be stacked with another discount. Sightseeing Passes (Go City San Diego & CityPASS)
Kids Free San Diego changes the math in October. If you are considering a sightseeing pass anyway, know that Brick-or-Treat is included with pass admission on event dates, provided you can secure an event-date reservation. Pass visits to LEGOLAND require reserving your date in advance, and event nights may or may not have availability. Neither pass qualifies for the Kids Free San Diego offer, though.
If the Monster Party is the reason you’re going, a dated park ticket is still the safer buy. It guarantees event admission without depending on pass reservation availability.
One more planning note: CityPASS reservations have required about four days of lead time, and CityPASS entry closes at 5 p.m., so plan an afternoon arrival and don’t count on a last-minute pass purchase. I haven’t confirmed whether Go City enforces the same lead time.
How to Get in as an Annual Passholder

Elite Annual Passholders
Admission is included for all Brick-or-Treat dates. No blackout dates or reservations are required.
Platinum, Gold, and Silver Passholders
These pass tiers are blocked out on Brick-or-Treat dates, but a Brick-or-Treat Passholder Ticket (from $24 per person) gets you in. It covers 1-day admission to the theme park, SEA LIFE Aquarium, and the Water Park on your selected event date. You can buy the passholder ticket and reserve your event date on LEGOLAND’s Brick-or-Treat page. I highly recommend booking in advance.
I tried to use my Platinum Pass for discounts on food in the park, and it didn’t work because my date was blocked out. My pass did allow me to park for free, however.
How Brick-or-Treat Works Inside the Park
- To join the Monster Party, simply enter the park with your dated LEGOLAND ticket.
- Once inside, pick up your paper candy bag at the event check-in table in MINILAND, though LEGOLAND notes the location can change. A reusable Brick-or-Treat bag is available to buy, and personal bags and baskets are welcome too, as long as they clear bag check. Rolling bags are not allowed.
- Tip: Grab the event guide at the entrance or in the app. It lists all treat stations, showtimes, and activities so you can plan your night efficiently.
Event Offerings: A Guide to the Monster Party
The heart of Brick-or-Treat is its exclusive entertainment, seasonal overlays, and interactive Halloween fun. For 2026, LEGOLAND California added a substantial slate of new experiences alongside returning fan favorites.
New in 2026
Brick or Treat Street
The headline addition is an interactive trick-or-treat trail featuring six life-sized LEGO Monster homes: Wacky Witch’s Cottage, Wolf Guy’s Cabin, Spider Lady’s Castle, Mummy’s Throne Room, Plant Monster’s Greenhouse, and Scarecrow’s Barn. Each door hides its own tricks, builds, and treats, and a new interactive light trail runs through the whole street after dark.
Potion Mischief Light Trail
In this enchanted-forest walkthrough, kids mix colorful combinations at interactive potion stations and watch the forest’s lights transform around them.
The Dragon: Roarsome Halloween Adventure
The Dragon coaster gets a Halloween makeover, sending riders past LEGO ghosts, toxic spiders, and radioactive bats causing glowing mischief in the Castle.
Department of Monster Vehicles
Kids take a mischievous driving lesson, dodging glowing slime balls and candy cones while sound, lighting, and fog effects transform the course into a Halloween adventure.
Halloween Mural
Find your mural piece on Brick or Treat Street, fill it with the correct LEGO bricks, and add your creation to a giant Halloween mural featuring Scarecrow and his fellow LEGO Monsters.
Galacticoaster’s Halloween Spaceship
In the new LEGO Galaxy land, the coaster’s customizable spaceship elements get a seasonal upgrade for fall, with nods to past Halloween LEGO sets and a classic Jack-O-Lantern hood ornament.
Two new costume characters, LEGO Skeleton Guy and LEGO Wacky Witch, also join the meet-and-greet lineup this year.
Signature Entertainment and Attractions
The Monster Rock Off
The LEGO Monsters of Rock take the stage to play iconic rock and roll hits, with big guitar riffs and plenty of room to dance and sing along.
Live Shows
A full program of Halloween-themed shows runs throughout the evening, including the comedic Once Upon a Brick – The Tale of the Wolf Guy, cheer tryouts with the Zombie Cheer Crew at the Fun Town Stage, the Skeleton Brass Band, and the Beastly Brick Beatz dance party.
Ghost Cruise
The classic Coast Cruise keeps its Halloween makeover, floating past ghostly LEGO scenes and haunted MINILAND cities on a family-friendly boat ride.
Monster Meet & Greets
The Monster Meet & Greet Hub hosts characters like Monster Rocker, Tiger Woman, and Mummy, while Spider Lady and Monster Scientist appear at their own spots around the park.
Interactive LEGO Builds
Children can immerse themselves in hands-on creativity. LEGO T-Rex Guy turns Dino Valley into his own fall festival, handing out treats alongside LEGO Scarecrow, and Spider Lady’s Spiderling Build lets kids add their own LEGO spider to her web.
Scavenger Hunt for the Commemorative Brick
This year’s hunt has families helping Monster Scientist track down his lost laboratory supplies. Completing it earns the event’s commemorative LEGO brick.
More Limited-Time Fun
Don’t miss the 17-foot LEGO Halloween Tree (built from 680,963 bricks), The Great Monster Chase 4D movie, and the Monster Security Checkpoint, where guards screen anyone who looks suspiciously non-monster-like.
A Guide to Trick-or-Treating
Trick-or-treating is the highlight of the Brick-or-Treat Monster Party and one of the main reasons families return year after year. Candy stations are set up throughout the park (treats are supplied by HARIBO this year), and the treat trails opened mid-afternoon last year, so kids can start collecting candy well before dark.
Again, be sure to grab the event guide, which includes all treat trail locations. It’s available at the entrance or Guest Services, and it’s visible in the app.
Tips for a Smooth Trick-or-Treating Experience
Be Prepared for Generous Candy
The kids get multiple pieces of candy at each station. Plan for this if you need to moderate sugar intake.
Strategic Timing
Expect the heaviest crowds right when the trails open. Lines tend to ease within an hour or two, making the later part of the afternoon a more relaxed time to visit the stations.
Visit More Than Once
You’re not limited to a single lap through the treat trails. Guests are welcome to revisit candy stations multiple times during the event, so pacing your stops can help avoid long waits while still filling your bag.

I see people recommend bringing larger treat bags but I do not think this is necessary.
Tips for Optimizing Your Visit
A thoughtful approach can make all the difference at Brick-or-Treat, particularly for families with young children. With the park typically opening at 10 a.m. and the main festivities beginning later in the day, pacing and planning are key to ensuring everyone has the energy to enjoy the evening.
Katie’s Burnout Tips
A full 10–11 hour day can leave kids too tired to enjoy the event’s best moments. Two simple strategies can help:
- Arrive later in the day: Enter the park around 1–2 p.m. so you’re rested for the start of the festivities. This is what local families do.
- Take a midday break: Here’s a reason to book a LEGOLAND hotel. If you’re staying at an on-site or nearby hotel, return for rest and costume changes before re-entering for the evening.
If a hotel stay is on the table anyway, note that LEGOLAND hotel packages with stays on event dates include event admission, and the current package deal (discounted kids’ tickets, 2-day Hopper tickets, and daily hot breakfast) runs through September 28, 2026.
Costume Contest
The V.I.M. (Very Important Monster) Costume Contest returns for 2026, with Lord Vampyre and his crew judging categories for kids and groups. Registration has been handled at the Info Booth in MINILAND USA in recent years (opening as early as the park does and closing a few minutes before each contest), so check the event guide when you arrive. Judges often favor creative, homemade costumes.
Know the Costume Rules
Costumes are encouraged for all ages, as long as they stay family-friendly. The rest is LEGOLAND’s safety list:
- Full-face masks are for children only. Adults may wear partial masks that do not cover the whole face.
- Toy weapons made of plastic or other hard materials are out, and realistic toy guns are strictly prohibited. Costume-y foam and fantasy props are fine.
- Nothing loose on rides: capes, backpacks, swords, jet packs, or anything else worn at the back or waist.
- Headwear comes off on any ride where hats are not allowed.
- Wireless accessories are not permitted, because they can interfere with ride mechanics.
- Inflatable costumes are not permitted at all.
Use the Official App
The LEGOLAND California app is invaluable, offering live ride wait times, a park map, and event details like show schedules and treat trail locations. (I still find a paper map helpful.)
Tip from Katie
I recommend studying the map on the app before you go, especially if it’s your first time. There are a lot of winding walkways and indirect paths to places, and I think it’s helpful to plan a quick strategy in advance.
Prepare for Low Lighting
Since the park is not typically open after dark, some pathways are dimly lit. Light-up accessories or glow sticks help keep track of children after sunset. Plus, your kids will see other kids wearing them, and they are fun to have!
I would also put an ID wristband, Air Tag, or some sort of identifier on or with your child in case you get separated. It’s never been overly crowded in my experience, but still, it’s a nighttime event.
Not All Rides Stay Open Late
Most attractions stay open, but not everything runs for the whole event. Check the official app or website on the day for what is operating.
Wear Comfortable Shoes
While any theme park visit requires a decent amount of walking, LEGOLAND Brick-or-Treat Party Nights kicks it up a notch with excited kids in tow. They are eager to hit as many of the candy stations as possible, so we move at a much faster pace than usual.
Don’t Forget About SEA LIFE Aquarium!
SEA LIFE Aquarium entry is now included free with all LEGOLAND California tickets. You’ll find spooky LEGO creatures inside the tanks in addition to a few other activities.
Seasonal Food and Merchandise
The event features a variety of limited-time food, beverages, and souvenirs. The full 2026 menu posts closer to the event, and recent lineups give you a good feel for what to expect.
Themed Food and Beverage
The most iconic seasonal treat is Creepy Crawly Apple Fries, a Halloween version of the park’s famous Granny’s Apple Fries. The line was long for these at last year’s event so I’ll grab them next time.
Other specialty items at the 2025 party included the Witch’s Brew Ramen (the ramen at LEGOLAND is decent actually), at Everything is Ramen, the Candy Cauldron Creamsicle Mocktail at multiple locations, along with other treats like the Spider Bite Sundae with a churro and Oreo spider.
Exclusive Merchandise
The LEGO Shop and other retail locations carry Halloween-themed LEGO sets and event merchandise. Guests can also look for exclusive, collectible Pop Badges, which are often tied to the event and make a fun, free souvenir to collect.

Is a separate ticket required for Brick-or-Treat?
No. Admission to Brick-or-Treat is included with any park ticket dated for an official event day. Exceptions include Silver, Gold, and Platinum annual passholders, who need a separate Brick-or-Treat Passholder Ticket. Sightseeing passholders are covered too, provided they can secure an event-date reservation, so book that early.
What time does trick-or-treating begin?
Treat trails opened at 3 p.m. last year. Check the event guide or app for this year’s schedule.
Can adults wear costumes?
Yes. Costumes are encouraged for all ages, but they must be family-friendly. Full-face masks are only permitted for children. Adults may wear partial masks that don’t cover the entire face.
Is the event scary for young children?
No. Brick-or-Treat is intentionally designed to be festive, fun, and “not-too-scary,” making it perfect for LEGOLAND’s core audience of families with younger children.
Is the Water Park open during Brick-or-Treat?
Only on some event dates. In October the Water Park opens on the Brick-or-Treat weekends, and its last day of the 2026 season is October 25, so it is closed on Halloween and on November 1. Worth knowing before you buy, because both the Resort Hopper and the Brick-or-Treat Passholder Ticket include the Water Park. Check the operating calendar for your date.
Are allergy-friendly treats available?
LEGOLAND says allergy-friendly options are not available during trick-or-treating for 2026, and warns that the candy may contain or come into contact with common allergens. Pack alternatives if allergies affect your family.
Are strollers allowed during the event?
Yes, in the theme park, and they are especially helpful for younger children who may get tired during the extended evening hours. You just need to have it security-checked at the entrance. One exception to plan around: strollers are not permitted inside SEA LIFE Aquarium, though you can park yours at the SEA LIFE entrance.
