As a San Diego-based travel advisor, mom, and LEGOLAND California annual passholder, I’ve helped thousands of families plan theme park vacations, including where to stay nearby.
Which one is right depends on whether the park, a resort, or the beach is driving your trip.
Start Here
Where I’d Book
- LEGOLAND Hotel if your kids are deep in LEGO. The rooms are themed to LEGO worlds and guests get early access to a few rides before the park opens to the public.
- Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara if you want a resort first and the park second. The villas have full kitchens and laundry, the drive to the gate is about ten minutes, and I book a lot of LEGOLAND-bound families here.
- Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach if the beach matters as much as the park. It is across the street from the sand (though most people take the shuttle to South Ponto), beach packs come with the stay, and there is a local shuttle within five miles, subject to availability.
Carlsbad works well as a home base. LEGOLAND California Resort, the seasonal water park, and SEA LIFE Aquarium are all nearby, and the beaches are minutes away. Rates are also generally better than in more central areas like Coronado or La Jolla.
| Hotel | Distance to LEGOLAND | Best for | Class |
|---|---|---|---|
| LEGOLAND Hotel | On site, steps from the gate | Immersive LEGO stay with early park access | Moderate |
| LEGOLAND Castle Hotel | On site, steps from the gate | Younger kids and the storybook castle theme | Moderate |
| Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara | 5 miles | Five-star service and villas with kitchens | Luxury |
| Park Hyatt Aviara | 5 miles | Hyatt members, connecting rooms, spa and golf | Luxury |
| Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach | Under 5 miles | Beach days plus the park, with a shuttle | Moderate |
| Omni La Costa Resort & Spa | 6 miles | Multi-generational groups, kids’ club and golf | Moderate |
| West Inn & Suites | 2 miles | Spacious suites, free breakfast, pet-friendly | Budget |
| Grand Pacific Palisades | Adjacent, a 10 to 15-minute walk | Large families wanting condos with kitchens | Moderate |
| The Cassara Carlsbad | Adjacent, about a 10-minute walk | Hilton stay with family suites | Moderate |
| Hotel Solea | Adjacent, about a 10-minute walk | Boutique resort with a private park entrance | Moderate |
| Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach | 2 miles | Beach location at a moderate price | Budget |
| Fairfield Inn & Suites Carlsbad | 2.5 miles | Marriott comfort and free breakfast | Budget |
1. LEGOLAND Hotel
Location: One LEGOLAND Drive, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: On site, steps from the gate
Why I like it
This hotel is a playground that never sleeps. With immersive themed rooms, nightly kid‑centric entertainment, and in‑room LEGO treasure hunts, it’s a continuation of the park experience. The early-access perk lets families ride Coastersaurus, the DUPLO Little Dino Trail, and Explorer River Quest before the crowds roll in, and on days the park runs later it starts earlier and adds LEGO NINJAGO The Ride and Coast Cruise.

Key features:
- Six themed room types: LEGO City, Pirate, Adventure, LEGO Friends, and NINJAGO, plus DUPLO rooms for toddlers
- Complimentary hot breakfast buffet at Bricks Family Restaurant, with a kids’ buffet line at child height
- Heated resort-style outdoor pool with cabanas
- Indoor play zones, a disco elevator, and nightly children’s entertainment
- Pack ’n plays available on request
- Paid self-parking or valet, with EV charging available
Good to know for families
DUPLO-themed rooms are designed for toddlers, featuring oversized animal décor and play areas. Breakfast includes a kids’ buffet at child height and is handy for early risers. The in-room treasure hunt comes with a LEGO surprise in the chest on arrival day.
Booking tip
The best rates and package perks, such as breakfast and park tickets, are typically available on LEGOLAND.com. You can bundle tickets for additional savings as well.
2. LEGOLAND Castle Hotel
Location: One LEGOLAND Drive, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: On site, steps from the gate
Why I like it
While the original LEGOLAND Hotel offers a mix of themes, such as NINJAGO and Pirates, the Castle Hotel is entirely devoted to a medieval fantasy world. The theming runs right through, from knights and princesses to the wizard, and it is more contained than its sibling. It’s a more contained, whimsical alternative with exclusive design elements like a lobby slide, courtyard movie nights, and an interactive outdoor play zone.
Key features:
- Three castle-themed room types: Knights & Dragons, Royal Princess, Magic Wizard
- Bunk beds and trundles in the themed rooms, so the sleeping space is built for kids
- Complimentary hot breakfast buffet at Dragon’s Den
- Heated resort-style outdoor pool
- Lobby slide, outdoor movie nights, and nightly entertainment
Good to know for families
Themed rooms sleep up to five and suites up to seven, but watch the adult caps: a themed room takes two adults, a suite takes four. The kids get their own sleeping area with a bunk and a trundle. Cribs and ADA rooms are available on request.
Insider tip
The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel is conveniently located adjacent to the park and the LEGOLAND Hotel, allowing you to take advantage of the same early park access. I also find that it tends to book up faster than the LEGOLAND Hotel, so book early.
Booking tip
Book through LEGOLAND.com to access packages that bundle rooms with tickets and breakfast. Suite categories book quickly during peak seasons, so reserve early if you need space for a larger family.
LEGOLAND Hotels
Which LEGOLAND Hotel Should You Choose?
- Pick LEGOLAND Hotel if your kids want a variety of themes like Pirate, Adventure, or NINJAGO and love lively environments with nightly entertainment and a disco elevator.
- Pick LEGOLAND Castle Hotel if your family prefers a more storybook vibe, with medieval themes, a quieter courtyard, and whimsical extras like a lobby slide and outdoor movies.
- Both offer early park access, themed rooms, and in-room LEGO treasure hunts, so you can’t go wrong—just match the hotel to your child’s favorite LEGO world.
3. Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara, North San Diego (Top Pick)
Location: 7210 Blue Heron Place, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: 5 miles
Why I like it
Away from the theme-park hustle, Four Seasons Aviara is an upscale retreat nestled on coastal foothills with views over the Batiquitos Lagoon. Beautifully remodeled one- and two-bedroom villas feature full kitchens, washers, and dryers. The guest rooms are a smaller proposition, with a king, a sofa bed, and a kitchenette rather than a full kitchen. All come with balconies or terraces and the impeccable service for which Four Seasons is known, and I book a lot of LEGOLAND-bound families here.
Hotel amenities:
- One- and two-bedroom villas with full kitchens, washers and dryers, and sofa beds; guest rooms have kitchenettes
- Two heated outdoor pools with children’s wading pools, plus a fire pit and BBQ grills
- Unsupervised kids’ clubhouse with games and movies, though it is unstaffed and under-7s need an adult with them
- High chairs, cribs, and childproofing available on request
- Driftwood Spa, Seasons Restaurant, and a barista bar on site
- Pet-friendly with a generous weight limit, fee applies; valet and self-parking
Good to know for families
A one-bedroom villa sleeps four, the one-bedroom Premier sleeps six, and a two-bedroom sleeps eight. The extra sleeping space is sofa beds, not rollaways. Cribs, high chairs, and childproofing are available on request. There are no two queen or double bed rooms. You can park your car near your room or villa, which is convenient.
Insider tip
The recent California-style renovation refreshed all 246 villas, clubhouses, pools, and fitness centers. It’s stunning!
Booking tip
I will add Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits to your booking that include:
4. Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa
Location: 7100 Aviara Resort Drive, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: 5 miles
Why I like it
This beautifully renovated luxury resort is set on 250 acres in the hills of Carlsbad overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon. Spacious guest rooms and suites, many with balconies and separate living areas, offer comfort for families and groups. Park Hyatt Aviara is known for its award-winning service, upscale dining, and a wide range of recreational amenities, including golf, tennis, and an exceptional spa.
Key features:
- Rooms with a king and a sleeper sofa, or two kings; connecting rooms are a bookable category
- Family pool with a waterslide tower and splash pad, plus an adults-only pool with cabanas
- Miraval Life in Balance Spa Aviara, with sauna and steam room
- The only Arnold Palmer designed 18-hole course in San Diego, plus five tennis and four pickleball courts
- Dining at Ponto Lago, Ember & Rye, and Pacific Point
- Valet parking only, no self-parking; EV charging and pet-friendly rooms
Good to know for families
Rooms include king beds with sleeper sofas or two king beds. They will create two-bedroom suites and connecting room options for larger families. The family pool area is a highlight for kids with slides and shallow play zones. Kids must be 48″ tall to ride the slides alone or 42″ to ride with a flotation device.
This incredibly beautiful part of Carlsbad is inland from the I-5 freeway, so you’ll need to drive to the beach.
Insider tip
The Fireside Terrace Suite has a fire pit. You can read my full Park Hyatt Aviara Resort review.
Booking tip
I will book you in as a Hyatt Privé guest so that you can enjoy daily breakfast for two, resort credits, room upgrades, and early check-in/late checkout when available—at no extra cost.
5. Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach, a Hilton Resort and Spa (Top Pick for Beach)
Location: 1 Ponto Road, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: Under 5 miles
Why I like it
This upbeat Hilton resort combines laid-back coastal charm with family-friendly amenities. The Beach Butler service and complimentary beach packs make beach days easy, while surf excursions and the casual Pacific‑coast vibe add a sense of adventure. They also run a local shuttle within a five-mile radius, subject to availability and arranged through the valet. Cape Rey puts LEGOLAND at about four miles away, so it falls inside that radius, but ask at check-in rather than counting on it.
Key features:
- A nightly resort charge is added to the room rate, and it is what covers the Wi-Fi, the beach packs, the cruiser bikes, and the local shuttle
- Beach packs with chairs, umbrellas and towels, plus Beach Butler shuttle service down to the sand
- Local shuttle within a five-mile radius, subject to availability, arranged through the valet
- Outdoor pool with hot tub, private cabanas, and poolside service
- Chandler’s Oceanfront Dining and the Ocean Crest Spa on site
- Connecting rooms on request, and dog-friendly rooms with a fee
Good to know for families
Many rooms offer partial or full ocean views, adding a lovely backdrop for breakfast or lounging. Beach cruisers and resort bikes are a fun way to explore the coast.
Insider tips
The beach is across a genuinely busy street, and you cannot just bolt across from the hotel. Walk to a crosswalk and cross there, which matters more than usual with kids in tow. Rooms facing away from Carlsbad Boulevard are quieter, as the highway can be busy. See also: Guide to Cape Rey Carlsbad, a Hilton Resort.
Booking tip
Join Hilton Honors (free) before booking to access member rates, digital key, and room upgrades. Check available packages that bundle in things like dining credits and beach perks—often over and above the standard nightly rate.
6. Omni La Costa Resort and Spa
Location: 2100 Costa Del Mar Road, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: 6 miles
Why I like it
Omni La Costa is widely regarded as one of San Diego’s most family-friendly resorts near LEGOLAND California. It offers spacious guest rooms and villas, many with kitchens, fireplaces, and private patios, plus a full slate of on-site entertainment for all ages. With two championship golf courses, eight pools, an award-winning spa, and a dynamic kids’ program, there’s something for every member of the family.
See also: Omni La Costa Resort & Spa review
Key features:
- Villa suites from one to three bedrooms with gourmet kitchens, patios, and washers and dryers; studios have a smaller kitchenette
- Eight pools, including the Splash Landing water play area and an adults-only Edge Pool
- Little Sprouts kids’ club for ages 6 months to 12 years, seven days a week
- An evening Night Camp a couple of nights a week, which is how parents get a dinner out
- Two 18-hole championship golf courses and the Cliff Drysdale tennis facility
- Dining from casual to upscale, including Bob’s Steak & Chop House and VUE
Good to know for families
Villa Suites (up to 1,800 square feet) work well for larger or multi-family groups. The pool and its cafe can have seasonal hours so check before you go.
Insider tip
Little Sprouts runs a Night Camp on select evenings, which is the window to book a dinner out. Confirm the current nights with the resort when you book, because they shift. Families also love the dive-in movie nights, and you can reserve a private fire pit with s’mores supplies out on the terrace.
Booking tip
I used to book Omni La Costa with my extra benefits, but I find that people who stay here either book directly using Omni sale rates or through expedia.com.
7. West Inn & Suites
Location: 4970 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: 2 miles
Why I like it
West Inn & Suites offers oversized rooms and spacious suites—many with two king beds and separate living areas—plus perks like a hot breakfast buffet, evening milk & cookies, and complimentary beach gear. It’s a charming, pet-friendly property that delivers comfort and convenience for families and pretty much any type of traveler.
Located about a 5-minute drive from LEGOLAND and about three blocks from the beach, this pet-friendly hotel offers a relaxed setting. We have enjoyed staying here in a spacious suite with our rescued pitbull in tow.

Key features:
- 86 rooms and suites; the suites run 445 to 570 square feet with a separate living area and a pullout sofa
- Complimentary hot breakfast buffet and evening milk and cookies
- Outdoor pool and hot tub
- Beach equipment to borrow
- Dogs and cats welcome in select ground-floor rooms, up to two pets, with a fee
- Wi-Fi and overnight parking are covered by the hotel’s amenity fee
Good to know for families
Despite the boutique size and budget-friendly rate, the hotel features thoughtful touches like pillow-top beds, high-quality linens, and large room layouts. Suites with two king beds and a sofa bed work particularly well for larger families. Pets are welcome, but must not be left unattended in rooms.
Insider tip
I think this is one of the best value hotels in the area because the rates and location are good and it’s a nice place to stay (though not for luxury travelers).
Booking tip
I would book directly or through your preferred online travel site.
8. Grand Pacific Palisades
Location: 5805 Armada Drive, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: Adjacent, a 10 to 15-minute walk

Why I like it
Sitting on 12 lush acres overlooking the Pacific and seasonal flower fields, this resort offers one- to three-bedroom condo suites with fully equipped kitchens and a balcony or patio, which is what makes it work for multi-generational families or anyone who wants to cook. There is a private entrance into LEGOLAND, an Olympic-sized quiet pool with coastal-view cabanas, and a family pool with a splash pad. It’s also close to the outlet mall, beaches, and Carlsbad Village.

Key features:
- One- to three-bedroom condo suites with fully equipped kitchens and a patio or balcony
- One bedroom sleeps four, two bedrooms sleep five or six, and the three-bedroom sleeps ten
- Olympic-sized quiet pool with coastal-view cabanas, a family pool with a splash pad, and two hot tubs
- Game room, playground, half-court basketball, BBQ grills, and weekly resort activities
- Pedestrian entrance into LEGOLAND and SEA LIFE Aquarium next door
- Seasonal Ride the Tide trolley to Tamarack Beach and the outlet mall; a resort fee covers the Wi-Fi
Good to know for families
A one-bedroom sleeps four, a two-bedroom sleeps five or six, and the three-bedroom sleeps ten. Rollaway beds are available for a fee. I like the community aspect. It felt like families were meeting and socializing with other families when I stayed there.
Insider tip
Most families actually cook in these units. There’s a nearby Costco.
Booking tip
Though it’s part of Hilton Grand Vacations, anyone can book. You can also book on VRBO.
9. The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
Location: 5805 Armada Drive, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: Adjacent, about a 10-minute walk
Why I like it
This boutique hotel near LEGOLAND California offers fresh coastal design and family-friendly amenities, all within a larger resort setting. You get stylish, well-equipped spaces (including King Peloton suites and corner family suites) in a vibrant atmosphere that’s still relaxed and coastal.
It shares the Grand Pacific Palisades campus, so some amenities are shared, including the pools and the splash pad, but the accommodations are very different.
Key features:
- Two-room family suites with a king in the bedroom, two twins in a separate parlor, and a door between them
- About a ten-minute walk from the lobby to LEGOLAND through the private entrance
- Quiet pool with lap lanes and a hot tub, plus a family pool with a kids’ splash pad
- Cassara Kitchen & Bar on site, shared with the Grand Pacific Palisades campus
- Peloton wellness rooms with a bike, resistance bands, and a yoga mat
- Pet-friendly on the first floor, up to two pets at 25 lbs each, with a non-refundable fee
Good to know for families
Family suites are spacious and well-priced, and the door between the two rooms is what makes them work with kids. The private entrance makes nap-time returns easy.
Insider tip
Guests can book treatments at the Ocean Pearl Spa, which sits at the Westin next door and runs a courtesy shuttle over. The wellness-themed rooms with Peloton bikes and yoga mats are also a great upgrade for active travelers.
Booking tip
Join Hilton Honors for free before booking to unlock member rates, digital key access, and to earn points toward free nights.
LEGOLAND Entrance Tip
The private entrance opens at the same time as the main gate. If you’re aiming to rope drop rides, be in line before opening.
10. Hotel Solea, Autograph Collection
Location: 5420 Grand Pacific Drive, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: Adjacent, about a 10-minute walk
Why I like it
Hotel Solea opened in March 2026 as a complete transformation of the former Sheraton Carlsbad, now part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The property was gutted and redesigned with a coastal botanical aesthetic with natural woods, woven textures, and sun-washed palettes throughout. It has a private entrance into LEGOLAND California, plus Verise, an Italian restaurant from Chef Riccardo Billotta, whose career spans Michelin-starred kitchens in Europe and New York. The resort shares its campus with The Westin Carlsbad, where the Ocean Pearl Spa is located.
Key features:
- Family suites with a king bed and two twin beds
- Lagoon-style pool with a waterslide, a dedicated children’s pool, hot tub, and cabanas
- Verise for handcrafted pastas and wood-fired cooking, plus Caffè al Volo and a poolside cafe
- Resort trolley to Carlsbad Village, the beaches, and shopping, so a car is optional
- Private entrance into LEGOLAND
- Ocean Pearl Spa at the sister property, reachable by the hotel’s courtesy shuttle
Good to know for families
Hotel Solea has family suites with a king bed and two twin beds which is great for families visiting LEGOLAND.
Insider tip
What about The Westin? The adjacent sister property is a perfectly good choice. It’s just a further walk to the LEGOLAND entrance and a bit quieter. Hotel Solea leans more family-friendly thanks to its pool area (with waterslide and kids’ pool) and family suites, but the real differentiator now is the dining: Verise is a destination restaurant in its own right.

12. Fairfield Inn and Suites Carlsbad
Location: 1929 Palomar Oaks Way, Carlsbad · Distance to LEGOLAND: 2.5 miles

FAQs About Hotels Near LEGOLAND in Carlsbad
Quick answers on walking distance, shuttles, early access, and whether park tickets are included.
What is the nearest hotel to LEGOLAND California?
The LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel are the nearest, because both sit on the LEGOLAND California Resort property within steps of the park entrance.
Off the property, the closest are Grand Pacific Palisades and The Cassara Carlsbad, which share a campus on Armada Drive, and Hotel Solea just up the road. All three use a private entrance into the park, and the walk runs about ten minutes.
Which luxury hotels are near LEGOLAND California?
Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara and Park Hyatt Aviara are the two luxury resorts here, both about five miles from the park. The Four Seasons villas have full kitchens and laundry, which suits families who want to cook and spread out. Park Hyatt Aviara is larger, with connecting rooms, a spa, and golf. I book both through programs that add benefits to the rate.
What are LEGOLAND partner hotels?
LEGOLAND Vacations Partner Hotels are hotels you can book through LEGOLAND.com as part of a package. Published benefits are LEGOLAND California tickets with guaranteed admission, early park access, and breakfast at select partner hotels. The two on-site hotels work differently. Guests at the LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel get early access whether or not they book a package.
Can you walk to LEGOLAND from nearby hotels?
Yes. Six Carlsbad hotels are within walking distance: the LEGOLAND Hotel, LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, Hotel Solea, Grand Pacific Palisades, The Cassara Carlsbad, and the Westin Carlsbad. Those hotels use a private entrance into the park, so you walk in rather than driving and parking. It is a real walk rather than a stroll, part of it across the parking lot, which is where the ten minutes goes.
Do LEGOLAND hotels include park tickets?
Not automatically. If you book a vacation package through LEGOLAND.com, tickets are bundled in. If you book a room only (Build Your Own Vacation), you’ll need to purchase tickets separately. Either way, hotel guests get early park access.
Which hotels offer early access to LEGOLAND?
Guests at the LEGOLAND Hotel, the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, and LEGOLAND Vacations partner hotels all get in before the public. LEGOLAND sets the start time based on how late the park runs that day, so the later it closes, the earlier you are in; longer days also open the most rides.
Coastersaurus, the DUPLO Little Dino Trail and Explorer River Quest run every day, with LEGO NINJAGO The Ride and Coast Cruise added on the longest ones. LEGOLAND says the times and the ride list change periodically and asks guests to check the day before visiting, which is worth doing.
Do any hotels near LEGOLAND offer a free shuttle to the park?
Not in the way people expect, and the closest hotels do not need one. Grand Pacific Palisades, The Cassara, and Hotel Solea all have a private entrance, which is quicker than waiting for a ride. Hotel Solea and Cape Rey each run an on-demand shuttle to destinations within about five miles, so the park falls in range, but both are subject to availability, and you arrange them at the hotel. The Ride the Tide trolley that several Carlsbad resorts share runs to Tamarack Beach and the outlet mall, not to LEGOLAND.
Is it worth staying at the LEGOLAND Hotel or Castle Hotel?
If your kids are LEGO fans and under 12, yes. The themed rooms, in-room treasure hunts, nightly entertainment, and early park access make it a fully immersive experience. That said, they’re priced as moderate hotels with theme-park-level rates, so families on a budget or those splitting time between the beach and the park may prefer a nearby alternative.
How many days do you need at LEGOLAND California?
Most families find one full day is enough for the main park. If you’re adding the Water Park (open seasonally) or SEA LIFE Aquarium, plan for a day and a half to two days. LEGOLAND designs the resort for families with children ages 2 to 12, so older kids may move through it faster. Most families we work with stay one or two nights at the LEGOLAND park hotels, then stay elsewhere for the rest of their trip.
Important Tips for Visiting LEGOLAND California
When planning a LEGOLAND California Carlsbad family getaway, it is critical to check park hours. This San Diego theme park closes on some weekdays in the off-season, and which days it closes changes through the year, so check LEGOLAND’s own calendar before you book flights or a hotel.
The LEGOLAND Water Park is open daily through peak summer, drops to weekends only as the season winds down, and closes through the winter months. Check the dates you are considering, because the weekends-only stretch starts earlier than most people expect.
You can skip the lines at LEGOLAND California with a VIP Experience that is handy during peak season.
LEGOLAND designs the resort for families with children ages 2 to 12.
