With its 78 private villas and cottages, Beach Village at The Del is one of five neighborhoods within the Hotel del Coronado resort. It offers guests more luxury, space, and exclusivity than can be found on the main property.

How? Beach Village guests have access to their own quieter pools and discounted access to Ocean Concierge Club PLUS everything on the main resort. So, it’s possible to enjoy a sprawling beachfront resort and retreat to a calmer oasis.

As an expert San Diego travel advisor, I spend my days helping people decide which neighborhood to choose. Beach Village is attractive to couples and families due to its smaller size and more elevated experience, which includes a dedicated concierge service and priority reservations throughout the resort.

I know more about these accommodations than most because not a day goes by when I’m not walking someone through the decision of what room or suite to choose.

WHAT I LOVE

  • Private access only for Beach Village guests = a less busy section of a busy resort
  • Only guests can access the Oval Pool and jacuzzis around the resort
  • But guests can use everything on the Main Resort
  • Full kitchens in suites
  • Free use of two beach chairs and an umbrella at Del Beach
  • Fire pits and outdoor soaking tubs in select rooms and suites
  • Ocean Concierge Club access (how it works is below)
  • Virtuoso amenities

GOOD TO KNOW

  • All rooms and villas are recently renovated!
  • Villas are the second row, and cottages are the front row — understand the location before you book.
  • Rooms have two queen beds and a queen sofa sleeper. If you want a king room, book junior suites and above.
  • Early check-in and late check-out are difficult, even for VIP guests.
  • No rollaway beds — extra beds are blow-up mattresses for small children only (cribs are also available) to fit in certain villas.
  • There can be events like weddings on the beach, but the timing of these is hard to predict.
  • The ocean in front of the resort can close for swimming periodically, so check sdbeachinfo.com for updates.
  • Windsor Cottage is now Ocean Concierge Club, an upgrade anyone on the resort can purchase.

The Five Hotel del Coronado Neighborhoods

Beach Village is one of five neighborhoods and is booked as a separate hotel. Each neighborhood has its own collection of guest rooms and suites.

  • Beach Village at The Del (private)
  • The Views
  • The Victorian
  • Shore House (private)
  • The Cabanas

Luxurious Residential-Style Guest Rooms and Suites

Boasting a casually upscale beachside elegance, Beach Village at The Del offers an authentic home-away-from-home experience on the north end of the Hotel del Coronado resort.

The exteriors blend in with the hotel’s famous Victorian architecture. Interiors are infused with the natural beach landscape and accentuated with upscale furnishings and appliances. Lush gardens are interspersed with pools and Jacuzzi tubs available exclusively to residents of Beach Village at The Del.

A beachside front row of residence-style Cottages and a second row of Villas behind offer a wide range of accommodations, including large hotel rooms and multi-bedroom suites. Cottages have the most full ocean views and are priced accordingly, whereas the views of the ocean from Villas peek in between or over the Cottages.

Each residence has a balcony or ground-floor terrace. Some of the more opulent options have several with outdoor features like fire pits and soaking tubs. All also include single or multiple fireplaces, natural bath amenities, at least one marble bathroom with a deep soaking tub and separate shower, and free Wi-Fi access. Residences with full kitchens feature a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a Wolf cooktop, an oven, and all the kitchenware you’ll need.

I recommend you view the layout on the resort map because it will help you understand where the room or suite you’re booking is located.

How to Understand your room or Suite’s location

  • Find Beach Village on the resort map.
  • Villas are in the second row, and Cottages are in the beachfront first row.
  • Oceanfront or Ocean View rooms and suites are on the second or third floors.
  • Beachfront or Coastal View rooms and suites are on the ground floor.

The most popular accommodation we book is the Beachfront Fireside Junior Cottage (Beachfront = ground floor and Cottage = first row). Junior = junior suite.

Accessible rooms and suites exist in the following categories:

  • Coastal View Villa Room: hearing accessible
  • Ocean View Villa Room: mobility and hearing accessible
  • Beachfront Cottage Junior Suite: mobility and hearing accessible
  • Coastal View Villa Suite: hearing accessible

Guest Rooms

Rooms have two queen beds and either a single or full-size sofa bed. These are the most popular accommodations for families of five or six on the entire resort.

Ocean View Villa and Coastal View Villa Rooms

Beds: Two queen beds and a queen-sized sofa sleeper
Size: 535 square feet

Villa Rooms are the smallest, one-room residences in the second row of buildings and can accommodate up to five people. These are the entry-level Beach Village accommodations.

The second-floor Ocean View Villa Room has a small balcony. Alternatively, the Coastal View Villa Room is on the ground floor with a small terrace.

A foyer provides access to the marble bathroom or the main living and sleeping area. The space includes a small dining area, two queen-size beds, and a twin-size sofa bed.

The Beachfront Fireside Cottage Room and the Oceanfront Cottage Room are also one-room residences. They are slightly larger than the villa rooms at 600 square feet and feature a full-size sofa bed instead of a twin-size sofa bed. These rooms also have a small dining area and two queen-size beds.

A small entryway allows access to the marble bathroom or the main room. Beachfront Cottage Rooms on the ground floor have an outdoor soaking tub, while the second-floor Oceanfront rooms do not. This room option can accommodate up to five people.

One-Bedroom Suites at Beach Village at the Del

Beach Village has a variety of one-bedroom suites with two versions: a ground-floor and a second- or third-floor option.

Many of the one-bedroom layouts include a great room and a fully separate private bedroom with an attached but separate marble bathroom.

The Junior Cottage Suites

Beds: One king bed and a king-sized sofa sleeper
Outdoor features: Fire Pit on the Beachfront Fireside Junior Cottage patio
Size: 650 square feet

The Oceanfront Junior Cottage and Beachfront Fireside Junior Cottage Suites can accommodate four people. The former is the second-floor option featuring a balcony, while the latter is the ground-floor option with a terrace.

One notable difference between these two layouts is the outdoor space. The ground-floor terrace includes an outdoor fire pit, but the second-floor balcony doesn’t.

The separate bedroom boasts a king-size bed and an attached marble bathroom. There is an independent living and dining area (separated from the bedroom by pocket doors), but it does not include a full kitchen. This is what the divide between the rooms looks like.

It is not a true swinging door, but a sliding pocket door.

The Villa Suites

Beds: One king bed and a queen sofa sleeper
Size: 700 square feet

Ocean View Villa view (second row, second floor) over one of the Beach Village jacuzzis

There are two types of Villa Suites. The Ocean View Villa Suite is on the second floor with a balcony. The Coastal View Villa Suite is on the ground floor with a terrace.

A king bedroom is fully separated from the living area, where there is a full-size sofa bed and kitchen. However, this residence style does not include an outdoor firepit on the balcony or terrace.

These are the entry-level true one-bedroom suites with a solid door separating the bedroom and living room.

The Cottage Suites

This one-of-a-kind accommodation sleeps up to four people and features 1,085 square feet of space. A great room with a full kitchen, dining, and living area leads to an expansive outdoor balcony.

Two-Bedroom Suites at Beach Village at the Del

Beach Village at The Del Curio Collection by Hilton offers a diverse collection of two- and three-bedroom residences.

Some are on the ground floor, while others are on the second floor. Each of the two- and three-bedroom accommodations also have one villa style that is a split-level design.

Beware of external sites that say they can guarantee connecting rooms at Beach Village. They usually can’t — you need to book a two- or three-bedroom suite to ensure you have multiple bedrooms. If you book connecting rooms through a third-party site, you may arrive to find that you have two separated rooms. It happens.

Two-Bedroom Ocean View Villa Loft Suite

Beds: Two king beds, one queen sofa sleeper
Outdoor features: Outdoor soaking tub on the second floor
Size: 1100 square feet
Sleeps: 4-6 people

A unique two-level residence, the Loft Suite is in the second row of Beach Village. It can accommodate up to six people across two king beds and a sofa bed.

The ground level has a great room with a gourmet kitchen, dining table, and living space with a full-size sofa bed. The first floor features a terrace, a marble bathroom, and one bedroom with a king-size bed.

On the second floor is a private bedroom with another king-sized bed and an attached marble bathroom. There is also a small balcony with an outdoor soaking tub on the second level. This suite is popular for couples wanting to travel togethter because each bedroom has a king bed.

Two-Bedroom Villa Suites

Beds: One king bed, two queen beds, two queen sofa sleepers
Size: 1240 square feet
Sleeps: 6-10 people

Located in the second row of Beach Village at the Del, Villa Suites are popular with families.

Two Bedroom Coastal View Villa Suites are on the ground floor featuring two terraces. Two Bedroom Ocean View Villa Suites are on the second floor with two balconies.

The interior includes two bedrooms; one has two queen-size beds. The second bedroom has one king-size bed. The great room consists of a living and dining area with a gourmet kitchen. They also include two marble bathrooms, two fireplaces, one twin-size, and one full-size sofa bed.

These two-bedroom suites are one-bedroom Villa Suites attached to a Villa Room in the same view category. Don’t book separate rooms and request that they connect. Book only as a two-bedroom suite unless you speak with us or the hotel directly.

The Cottage Surf Suites

Outdoor features: Two fire pits in the Beachfront Cottage Surf Suite

The Cottage Surf Suites have two options. Oceanfront Cottage Surf Suite is on the ground floor, and Beachfront Cottage Surf Suite is on the second floor.

The great room boasts a gourmet kitchen, dining area, and living space with a king sofa bed. Each of the two separate bedrooms has a king-size bed but one also has a queen sofa bed. There are two marble bathrooms and two fireplaces.

Three-Bedroom Suites at Beach Village at the Del

Three-bedroom residences are the largest accommodations offered at Beach Village at the Del. Choices include an opulent Villa Loft Suites and three-bedroom Cottage Suites. The latter is the largest on the property.

Three-Bedroom Ocean View Villa Loft Suites

Beds: Two king beds, two queen beds, two queens sofa beds

This one-of-a-kind layout with two levels and three bedrooms accommodates up to twelve people. The ground floor has a sprawling outdoor terrace with multiple seating areas. There are two bedrooms on this level.

The first bedroom has two queen-size beds and a queen sofa bed. The second bedroom provides a king-size bed. There are two marble bathrooms on this floor, but only one has a soaking tub.

The great room boasts a gourmet kitchen, dining space, and living area with a queen sofa bed. There is one bedroom with a king-size bed and an attached marble bathroom on the second floor. It also includes a private balcony with an outdoor soaking tub.

Dining at Beach Village at The Del, Curio Collection by Hilton

Two eateries are accessible by guests of Beach Village at The Del. They include Breezes and Windsor Cottage. Another seven are available to Beach Village, Shore House, and main resort guests. They include:

  • Serea (popular with residents, too — make a reservation)
  • Sheerwater (buffet breakfast is here)
  • Sun Deck
  • Babcock & Story Bar
  • ENO Market & Pizzeria
  • Beach & Taco Shack (fun beach bar with take away and tables)
  • Sundae’s

Note that room service is unavailable across the entire resort.

Breezes

Open daily, Breezes is situated near the Beach Village Oval Pool. This casual poolside bar serves cocktails from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

Windsor Cottage

A private, members-only restaurant, Windsor Cottage is exclusive to the guests of Beach Village at The Del and Club at The Del members.

This nautical-inspired eatery has a beachfront location is open for breakfast and dinner. It is typically closed from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Breakfast is buffet-style, with an assortment of pastries, fruits, vegetables, cereal, and yogurt with a toppings bar. You can also choose from a selection of breakfast classics, including cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon.

The dinner menu offers an array of starters, main courses like Braised Lamb Shank Adobo, steaks, sides, and desserts.

Windsor Beach Club

Windsor Beach Club is an exclusive members-only outdoor lounge located on Del Beach. You can only access this area if you stay at Beach Village at The Del, Curio Collection by Hilton.

Boasting a nautical style, you can enjoy delicious food, craft cocktails, and beachfront dining. The lounge offers three menu options, including the Beach and Taco Shack menu. The dedicated staff serves all food and drinks for you.

Windsor Beach Club is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The rest of the year, it’s closed.

Pools Only for Beach Village Guests

San Diego hotels near beach

The main pool at Beach Village at The Del Curio Collection by Hilton is the Beach Village Oval Pool. You can also rent cabanas with a sofa, flat screen TV, amenity basket, and fresh fruit.

Several plunge pools and hot tubs are scattered throughout the grounds of these private residences. These secluded pools are exclusive to guests at Beach Village at The Del.

Special Perks for Beach Village Guests that Main Resort Guests Don’t Have

Beach Village is the most expensive section of the Hotel del Coronado resort but in addition to really nice accommodations, you get a handful of perks.

Two Complimentary Chairs and Umbrellas

A family sits in beach chairs under umbrellas in Coronado.
Nice beach chairs and umbrellas

Beach Village and Shore House guests receive two complimentary chairs and a complimentary umbrella daily from Del Beach.

This is a significant savings. A chair rental costs $25 per chair per day, and beach umbrellas cost $30 each per day. So, that’s $110 per day, included with your stay, so you can enjoy Coronado Beach to the fullest.

Ocean Concierge Club Access (Details subject to change)

Right now, Virtuoso guests receive access to the Ocean Concierge Club for the entire day and pay a la carte for services used. Here’s how it works. Virtuoso guests receive a daily breakfast buffet for two (excluding bottomless mimosas) at Ocean Concierge Club. You would then pay a la carte for any registered room guests outside of the two included breakfasts.

The other notable services are a lunch buffet and a dinner service. For the latter, even guests who pay the all-day rate would pay a la carte for dinner here. Virtuoso guests pay the a la carte lunch price.

Believe it or not, this a la carte situation is less expensive per person than paying for daily access or even half-day access. And I prefer this because you won’t feel tied to eating at Ocean Concierge Club for lunch and dinner because there are other great places on the resort and off to eat!

However, this is subject to change. It’s expected to stay as mentioned above until Memorial Day 2024 weekend. After that, we (and the hotel) are unsure whether they’ll move back to some sort of paid access, especially during the summer months. I will update you as soon as I know.

Dedicated Concierge

What I love most about Beach Village is that you can call a host, and they’ll pick up the phone, be super friendly, and handle requests. You can have this when there are only 78 accommodations versus 700+ on the main resort.

You can also email them as well and receive prompt responses. The highly personalized service begins even before you check in if you like. A Host Concierge will organize all aspects of your stay.

Private Entrances and Gated Access

Book Beach Village at the Del
View over Beach Village at sunset.

Guests of Beach Village at The Del have a private entrance and receive a VIP greeting upon check-in, including a property tour to help guests become acquainted with the property.

Gated access means only guests of Beach Village at The Del may access the property, providing extra security and a quieter beachfront experience. (The main resort can be busy during peak season.)

Hotel del Coronado Main Resort Property Amenities

The main pool with Victorian building in the background at Hotel del Coronado.
Main resort pool

Beach Village at the Del Curio Collection by Hilton offers a truly unique experience. You get to enjoy the private comforts of the residences while also indulging in the main resort’s amenities, which include the following.

Fitness Center

Open daily, 24 hours a day, the fitness center in The Victorian building features a variety of strength training and cardio equipment. You can choose from many activities, including Yoga, Pilates, Beach Spin, Paddleboard Yoga, and Yoga on the Beach.

The latter is complimentary to all guests who stay overnight and are at least 16 years old. You will need to make a reservation to attend classes. Certified trainers are also available at an additional cost.

Surfing Lessons

Surf lessons are available at the Del Surf Academy. They offer private lessons in the morning and group lessons in the morning and afternoon.

Ocean Explorers Kids’ Club

Kids ages 5-12 can join Ocean Explorers for a half or full day. The schedule runs daily during peak seasons like summer and holidays but can be weekends only during other times of the year. Check the schedule before you go if a kids’ club is important to you.

Spa & Salon at The Del (Temporarily moved to The Cabanas)

Inspired by the ocean, Spa & Salon at The Del offers a diverse collection of spa treatments. This includes massages, facials, body treatments, and nail care.

The private concierge of Beach Village at The Del can book any service you desire. The Spa & Salon at The Del is normally in The Victorian building just south of the residences. However, it’s moved to The Cabanas building during the renovation of The Victorian Building.

It normally includes access to the Spa terrace featuring a small vanishing pool. Additionally, you can get a variety of hair treatments at the Marilyn Monroe-inspired beauty bar.

You’re encouraged to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. This allows you time to be shown the onsite lockers and change into a plush robe and slippers. Kids aged 14-17 can receive spa services from a same-gender provider. However, the parent needs to be present and provide consent.

Shops at the Del

Shops at The Del includes a collection of newly renovated specialty and apparel shops. Specialty boutiques include Beachhouse, a home goods store; En Route, high-quality leathers and luggage; and Est. 1888, a souvenir shop.

There are five apparel stores: Monroe, Current, Brady’s for Men, The Signature Shop, and Weekends. I can personally also vouch for the fudge at Spreckels Sweets. The bottom line, though, is that if you forget to pack something, you’re covered.

Ice House Museum

You can visit the Ice House Museum as a guest at Beach Village at the Del Curio Collection by Hilton. Housed in the restored 1889 Ice House, the museum showcases the rich and storied history of The Del.

It displays memorabilia and artifacts of its legendary guests and its world-famous dining and recreation history. Admission is complimentary. However, history tours are an additional cost.

The current list of docent-led tours is Legendary Tour, Haunted Happenings Tour, and Beautiful Stranger Anniversary Tour. Private group tours and self-guided audio tours are also available.

Live Music

There are two locations where you can enjoy live music but you’ll need to check the schedule. The first option is the Beach + Taco Shack. The second option is the Babcock & Story Bar with famous local musician Gonzo Gonzales.

Daily Roasts

One of the most sought-after Hotel del Coronado experiences is the beach Roast. Available nightly at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., you and your loved ones can enjoy a private beach bonfire.

Watch the sunset and roast s’mores. You can pick up food and drinks for your roast from Beach + Taco Shack or ENO Market & Pizzeria.

Tip: A Communal Roast Is Included with Ocean Concierge Club

The normal cost is $210 for one fire pit for up to 10 people for a private roast on the main resort, so this is a nice benefit. The Ocean Concierge Club version of the roast isn’t private but you do get to roast some s’mores!

Seasonal Movies on the Beach

Cuddle up with your loved ones with a movie under the stars on Del Beach. You can purchase food and beverages from the nearby Beach + Taco Shack.

Films start promptly (typically at 7:30 pm), but check the calendar at the time of your booking. There are different seating options, including renting a private bonfire for making s’mores. Reservations are required. You can book them with your personal concierge at Beach Village at The Del.

Holiday Events

The Hotel Del Coronado offers some of the best holiday events in San Diego from Skating by the Sea to Victorian tea.

One of the best times to visit Hotel del Coronado is during the holiday season, when they have myriad activities and a seaside ice skating rink.

You can spend Halloween on the Windsor Lawn or hunt for Easter Eggs there, too — to name a few of many other seasonal activities.

The Coronado Island Neighborhood

Coronado is a land-tied island to greater San Diego. It’s connected to Imperial Beach via the Silver Strand, but most people travel here by driving over the Coronado Bridge. You can also get here via the Coronado Ferry.

Its unique location serves as an “island” getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s famous for the Hotel Del Coronado complex but most well-known for its beaches.

Coronado beaches are some of the most beautiful, with sparkling sands that appear to be speckled with gold. Central Beach is also popular with surfers.

Things to do in Coronado include excellent golf courses, tide pooling, walking tours, and bicycle rentals. You can also visit a sunken ship, go boating on the Bay, or catch a show at Lamb’s Players Theatre.

Multiple restaurants and shops are also within an easy walk. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo.

A Cottage at Beach Village at The Del

I book the Hotel del Coronado for readers quite a bit, so I can tell you that Beach Village prices tend to start no less than $999/night plus tax and resort fee (and are subject to change based on availability and season). During the summer, expect the base room to start around $1299/night or higher.

  • Upgrade is not applicable at this property
  • Daily full breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom at Ocean Concierge Club
  • $100 USD Food & Beverage credit to be utilized during stay (not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
  • Early check-in / Late check-out, subject to availability
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Beach Village Virtuoso guests have all-day access to Ocean Concierge Club. Services outside of the daily breakfast for two are paid for a la carte. This is way better value than the daily rate that all-day guests have to pay!

Sign in to your free Virtuoso account to see the discounted rate. When booking on Virtuoso.com, use the number of adults traveling to get the correct rates. Kids may otherwise be priced as adults. We will add them after we follow up to collect your arrival details. If you see multiple rates, choose the lowest one.

If you choose to book through Hilton, you can earn Hilton Honors points for your stay, redeem Hilton Honors points for your stay, or book with the Hilton Honors discount. Virtuoso bookings also receive Hilton Honors points.

Beach Village: The Bottom Line

The reason for this post is to put Beach Village at The Del on your radar as it addresses what people find difficult about choosing a San Diego hotel:

  • It is a beachfront luxury San Diego resort.
  • It is quieter and more private than the main resort which is busy and still renovating.
  • Accommodations can have kitchens and up to three bedrooms. Plus, they’re renovated.
  • It is suitable for family travel, multigenerational travel, and extended stays.
  • It’s one of the nicest ways to enjoy a resort beach vacation in San Diego.
