When flying with kids, the part we parents dislike the most is take-off and landing. Why? Electronic devices have to be turned off while we’re all strapped in our seats.

This results in crayons flying everywhere, fidgety kids, and parents wishing for beverage service. I saw the Boogie Board LCD writing tablet at Geppetto’s in La Jolla and instantly knew it would solve problems. We bought two on the spot.

How The Boogie Board Works

The Boogie Board is powered by a sealed 3v watch battery that never needs replacing. Do the airlines make you stop your watch during take-off and landing? I think not.

Using a very thin stylus (included with the Boogie Board), write or draw on the back Boogie Board screen. The Boogie Board’s pressure-sensitive LCD writing surface creates lines of different thickness based on how hard you push. It’s just like using a pen or pencil. We temporarily lost our stylus and used a popsicle stick instead, which worked just as well.

When you need to erase your list or creation, just press the button (which works sort of like an iPad) and everything erases. It erases perfectly.

Rinse and repeat. I will tell you that we dropped, smashed (accidentally), bounced around in carry-on luggage and sat on our Boogie Board. The screen is still perfect. We’ve used it for about a month.

As you can see, it comes in multiple colors. Ours is pink, of course.

How To Use The Boogie Board

Here a few things you can do:

  • Play about 2000 games of hangman during take-off and landing.
  • Make grocery lists.
  • Use it as substitute for a notepad.
  • Keep kids entertained on road trips.
  • Use it to combat restaurant boredom.

The list goes on! It’s only 1/8 inch thick and weighs almost nothing, causing me to almost lose it a few times. Therefore, I would invest in a case and a stylus holder. I wish the stylus had a string that attaches it to the Boogie Board for the times it’s accidentally dropped (as even I have done). No one likes looking in airplane crevices for things. These are small complaints for the amount of sanity the device brought me during our last set of flights.

Where to Buy The Boogie Board

Stop into Geppetto’s or have a look on Amazon. I even saw them for sale in the Dallas airport, which I thought was genius.

Try it and let me know how you like it!
