With travel planning becoming increasingly visual, it makes sense that restaurant, activity and hotel bookings can be driven by what people see on Instagram.
As you might imagine, there are San Diego Instagram hashtags and accounts and completely dedicated to highlighting our amazing cuisine.
If you live in San Diego or are traveling here and are wondering what to eat, have a look at these San Diego food hashtags. Or, maybe you’re the type of person who ‘grams your dinner. Use these hashtags to achieve a broader reach and even earn a chance to be regrammed (featured) by a larger account.
Thousands of people Instagram food in San Diego. I looked for established accounts that are active on a consistent basis, offer professional-quality photography (flat lays and shots that aren’t too close), minimize selfies and/or have roughly over 75% of photographs dedicated to food and drinks at restaurants in San Diego.
This list is meant to be evergreen so I’m happy to add other hashtags and users that fit the profile. Leave suggestions in the comments!

Basically, @Eat_SanDiego is a regram account. I do not know who is behind it. Use the hashtag and they may regram it but more importantly, click on the hashtag to view beautiful food photos.
They have a sizable following (over 50,000 at the time of this writing) but a pretty inactive blog. However, the hashtag is excellent and their active Instagram account features regrams often from people I know.
Who’s ready for the weekend? Me ?? Enjoy a hearty meal at @urbanplates in #Carlsbad and #DelMar to design your perfect meal! The Brussels Sprouts and mango tart are two of my favorite things at this eatery! Enjoy. Photo: @thephilth #UrbanPlates #SDFood #youstayhungrysd

The @SDFoodDiaries Instagram account is not active enough for me to pull an example from it, but people continue to use the hashtag which features lovely displays of local eats like this flat lay from Emerald Chinese Cuisine.
I think this is another hashtag that intuitively makes sense to people. If you’re a foodie in San Diego, without much research, you’d probably type in #SDFoodie. Whatever the reason, the feed might make you drool.
You know, it’s not the most professionally styled feed but I like looking at this hashtag because it’s all about people loving local cuisine. I suspect it’s not a well-researched hashtag meaning that people use it on the fly because it make sense when enjoying San Diego eats.
And, really what more could you ask for?
In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve been writing about restaurants for DiscoverSD lately (online and in print—pick it up for free at distributors near you). Because of that, I watch the #DSDEat hasthag for things I need to know. If you eat something amazing in San Diego, please use this hashtag!

Guess what? There is an authentic Dole Whip truck (Jeep, really) at Belmont Park! No need to go to Disneyland or Hawaii to devour this cult classic. My daughter and I just shared a classic Dole Whip and a Dole Whip Float (pictured here) after lunch today, a perfect treat on a warm beach day, as research for an upcoming @DiscoverSD article (another hardship assignment). Belmont Park is a seaside amusement park with a rollercoaster, a zip line, miniature golf, laser tag, climbing walls, carnival food like funnel cakes and more. Not pictured is the stuffed banana I (yes, me) won playing a carnival game. Not a bad #SanDiego Sunday. Are you a Dole Whip fan? #VisitSD #DSDEat #DiscoverSD #igerssandiego

Both feature mostly food, but I think the North County account is ever so slightly more tantalizing.
In addition to being a PR maven, Laila has a really beautiful food-focused Instagram account.
Am I right?
If you would like to learn more about San Diego craft beer or craft beer in general, I suggest you follow this account.
The bimonthly magazine maintains a stunning Instagram feed.
These food bloggers will tour you around San Diego and Baja’s best eats in a very delectable manner.
I want to give Edwin a shot-out here because he created the massively-successful Eating and Drinking in San Diego Facebook group that has amassed almost 8000 members in the course of a year. It’s an trusted resource full of chefs, local foodies, media and San Diego residents who want to know where to eat.
Funnily enough, Edwin first crossed my radar when several people mentioned that his dog looks exactly like mine (and you all know how much I love my pampered pitbull).
Restaurants Killing it on Instagram
This is a small tribute to San Diego restaurants that curate beautiful photos. I will add more to the list as I find them.
They make my favorite chocolate cookie in town.
While I am not a fan of text on photos which have appeared recently, but most of the PrepKitchen feed is full-on foodie heaven. Like this. I adore their charcuterie and cheese board.
The consistent look of Beaming’s account is something that I have trouble implementing on my own. But, you’ll feel healthy by just looking at their photos. In the interest of full disclosure, I have been given complimentary cleanses (they are fantastic) over the years but have spent way more of my own dime in the cafe and on other cleanses.
These are the most popular food hashtags on Instagram. It is wise to incorporate them along with the local food hashtags mentioned above.
Save these into notes on your phone for the next time you post!
