General Park Information & History

The history of Dorney Park dates back to 1860 when Solomon Dorney built a trout hatchery and resort on his estate. Ten years later, he converted the estate into a public facility with games, rides, refreshment stands, and picnic groves, plus a restaurant and hotel. He later added a small zoo and gardens.

Ownership passed through several people until 1992 when Cedar Fair bought the park. A large swimming pool was also part of the property from the early 1900s until 1963, providing the impetus for the waterpark.

Dorney Park’s first water flume ride Thundercreek Mountain opened in 1982, but not until 1985 did the facility have a dedicated waterpark. Wildwater Kingdom opened that year as a separate attraction, featuring a wave pool, a family water raft ride, body slides, tube slides, and a children’s water play area.

Dorney Park expanded considerably after Cedar Far bought the attraction, adding giant rollercoasters and other adventure rides. Camp Snoopy, with rides for younger children, opened in 2005.

Today, Dorney Park features a combination of rollercoasters, adventure, and family rides, providing fun for everyone in the family. Among its most popular rides are Steel Force, Possessed, Hydra the Revenge, Talon Grip of the Fear, Thunderhawk, Laser, Hercules, Dragon Coaster, Woodstock’s Express, and Steel First.

Among the park’s new attractions is Seaside Splashworks, a multi-level structure that incorporates 75 play elements including interactive spray jets, a giant water cannon, a 317-gallon tipping bucket, six water slides, and a toddler splash zone. The beach-themed Seaside Splashworks also have plenty of lounge chairs and shaded areas for mom, dad, grandpa, and grandma.

Important Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom Tips for Visiting

Before leaving for your day of fun, park officials recommend that you double-check the park’s health and safety measures to ensure that you have the following items:

  • Tickets via mobile, print, or a season pass
  • A contactless payment method, such as a credit or debit card, Apple or Google Pay
  • At least one person in your group should have the Dorney Park app downloaded on a mobile phone with location services enabled
  • All guests who are 15 years old or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone that is at least 21 years old

Parking

When you arrive at the parking toll booth, you’ll need proof of parking payment through a voucher, or you can pay with a credit/debit card. Parking is less expensive if you buy it online.

A limited number of handicapped and preferred parking spaces are available. Handicap parking has no extra charge, but preferred parking does. You can also buy preferred parking spaces online.

Know Height Restrictions

Make sure you know your children’s height to avoid disappointment at the park, as many rides have height restrictions. Some rides also require that children have a companion ride with them if they are under a certain height or age. Hand-held babies and toddlers are only allowed to participate in a limited number of features in Wildwater Park

All-Season Dining Plan

Add to your experience at these great parks by adding food and drink for your visits throughout the season. Choose from the All-Season Dining Pass, the Season Pass Drink Plan, or the All-Day Dining and Snack Plan. You’ll find 24 different options for dining within the park.

The All-Season Dining plan allows you to eat lunch and dinner for one low price. The program is subject to menu choices at venues within the park. The Drink Pass plan gives you refreshing drinks and refills throughout the season with only a 15-minute interval between refills. The All-Day Dining and Snacks plan gives you an entrée and a side dish every 90 minutes during your day at the park. This last plan is less comprehensive than the All-Season Dining Plan.

Skip Lines with Dorney Park’s Fast LANE

Do you want to skip waiting in line for rides? Then one of the Fast Lane options is for you. Make the most of your day with a regular Fast Lane Admission, which you can buy to add to your single-day admission. You’ll be able to bypass the line on up to 21 rides.

Fast Lane Plus gives you the same benefits, plus the ability to bypass seven rides in Wildwater Kingdom.

Fall guests can select a Fright and Fast Lane that lets you skip the lines at your favorite rides and all Haunt mazes. Do you want a photographic record of your time on all your favorite rides? If so, then purchase a single-day photographic pass that gives you unlimited e-photos of your front gate and ride photos on a single day.

Other Add-Ons

Other Season Pass add-ons that visitors can buy that are valid for the rest of 2023 include Season Pass locker Rentals and Season Pass Photo Rentals. For Season Pass Locker rentals, you’ll receive a standard-size locker at the front gate or the entrance to Wildwater Kingdom.

The AllSeason Photo Pass gives you unlimited e-photos at the front gate and rides like Talon, Hydra, The Revenge, Woodstock Express, and Steel Force.
